Red Listing denim, characterised by its closed edge of red and white yarns, is woven the traditional way on vintage shuttle looms. This labour-intensive process takes over 13 times as long as modern weaving methods, and creates a unique tension in the fabric surface. Shuttle looms weave the weft yarn in a continuous loop; when the weft reaches the edge of the machine, it loops back in to create a natural, closed edge – called the selvedge.
