In this tutorial, we will learn how to collect and process statistical data, then visualize it using Adobe Illustrator. You will also learn how the various vector elements of this project were created, as well as how to save the project in PDF format, edit it, add hyperlinks, and place navigation between pages. This is a detailed infographic tutorial and you can follow along at the jump.

A Primer on Infographics Information graphics or infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge. These graphics present complex information quickly and clearly, such as in signs, maps, journalism, technical writing, and education. With an information graphic, computer scientists, mathematicians, and statisticians develop and communicate concepts using a single symbol to process information (Wiki). Information presented only in numbers may look awkward and people may not be interested in it. Today we are going to create website promotional infographics. Step 2 Step 4 Step 5. Design a Retro Styled Poster. Final Image As always, this is the final image that we’ll be creating: Step 1 Create a new document (600X700px). Paste in this great old paper texture. Call this layer ‘paper texture’. Step 2 Create a new layer called ‘gray area’. Step 3 Reduce the opacity of your gray area layer to 90%. Then download this great Splatter Brush Set.

We want to erase the edges of our gray area using this grungy brush set. Step 4 Apply a pattern overlay to your gray area layer. Reduce the patterns opacity to around 25% to give a subtle effect. Step 5 Download this Free PSDFAN Sunburst Set Apply the sunburst over your gray area. Then reduce this layers opacity to 15%. Step 6 To try and add a little extra to your sunburst effect go to edit>transform>warp and warp as demonstrated below: Step 7 Download this photo of clouds and paste it over the top area of your gray area. Then go to image>adjustments>desaturate. Step 8 Now download this photo of a mountain range. Step 9 Finally, reduce your mountains layer opacity to 50%. Step 10. Make a Vintage Planetary Landscape Poster in Photoshop. When working with an outer space theme, the possibilities are endless — there are plenty of elements you can incorporate and photo manipulate into your composition.

With the popularity and abundance of science fiction movies and books, there’s no shortage of inspiration either. In this Photoshop tutorial, we’re going to take some different space elements, as well as some earthly landscape elements, and put them all together to create a faded, vintage-like poster. Preview Click the image below to see the final result in full scale. Tutorial Resources Step 1: Create the Photoshop Document In Photoshop, press Ctrl/Cmd + N or go to File > New, which will open a dialog window.

After creating the new document, fill the Background layer with black (#000000). Step 2: Adding the Stars We’ll just use and process a stock image to add stars to the scene. Use Free Transform (Ctrl/Cmd + T) to resize the stock image so that it fits within our canvas. Step 3: Add a Gradient to the Scene Step 5: Add Clouds. Create a Retro-Futuristic Space Poster in Photoshop. I recently watched the movies Alien & Aliens and marvelled at each movie’s cover art, which gave me the inspiration for this tutorial. Both movies have a futuristic theme but this is combined with heavy grain from the outdated print techniques, creating that awesome retro-futuristic style.

Follow this step by step Photoshop tutorial to create your own space themed poster design with intense lighting effects and distressed textures. The space poster design we’ll be creating features a fantasy sci-fi scene with the planet LV-426 and its moon being the clear subject. We’ll use various resources to create the planet, as well as the array of whispy nebulae, then give the whole poster that aged retro style with some heavy grain and muted colours. View the retro futuristic space poster design Begin by opening up Photoshop and creating a document at your desired poster size.

Download a rust or concrete texture to represent the land mass of your planet. Download the source file. Combine Stock Photography to Create an Abstract Poster Layout. Today, we will demonstrate how to combine several stock photos to create an abstract poster layout. Let’s get started! Tutorial Assets The following assets were used during the production of this tutorial. Step 1 We'll want to start off with a base outline for our triangle. Step 2 This is where the fun starts happening.

Grab your pen tool again. Step 3 Take out your eraser tool. Step 4 We're going to want to create another triangle to add some dimension to the piece. Step 5 Now we're going to create another batch of shapes. Step 6 Add a new triangle in the center of the piece. Step 7 This is where brushes take their role. Step 8 The inside of the triangle is our most important focus in this whole design. Step 9 Download the roots stock photo from the tool assets. Step 10 Paste the roots into our document. Step 11 Now, I know what you're thinking!

Step 12 Repeat steps 9-11 two more times. Step 13 We're going to use the brushes again. Step 14 Do step 13 one more time on another root. Step 15 Step 16. Design a Grunge Vintage Poster in Photoshop. In this Photoshop tutorial I’m going to explain how to easily create a vintage poster design. We will use some useful techniques related to patterns and visual organization with Photoshop guides. Also we will play with a texture to give an old look to the composition and will deal with adjustment layers for final touches. Step 2 Grab the Paint Bucket tool (G), set a light-desaturated yellow (#f4e0a9) as foreground color, and fill the background layer. Step 3 Download this image of a frozen landscape and paste it into the Photoshop canvas (File>Open and select the image). Step 4 At this point we have to create the spots that will be used later to mask some areas of the landscape.

Before starting with the pattern, we need to make order using Photoshop guides. How to create guides? Step 5 Step 6 Step 7. Cosmic Abstract Shards Poster Design. Follow this step by step Illustrator and Photoshop tutorial to create a vibrant poster design featuring abstract vector shards and intense cosmic colours. We’ll begin by constructing the vector shard pieces in Illustrator then combine them with blending modes and lighting effects in Photoshop to produce a cool piece of poster artwork.

The cosmic abstract shards design we’ll be creating features an array of sharp vector objects that overlap to create a cool translucent pattern effect. A combination of cosmic background, intense lighting effects and a subtle pattern overlay gives the design a sleek futuristic style. View the Cosmic Abstract Shards Poster Design Open up Adobe Illustrator and draw a long thin rectangle on the artboard. Select the two upper most points with the Direct Selection tool and nudge them upwards and left to shear the shape and leave vertical edges.

Digital graphics are largely dependent on the software used to create them. Given the clean, pixel-perfect nature of Photoshop, artworks always risk looking too perfect therefore it's important to learn how to bring nature's random variations into our digital creations. In this tutorial we'll create an atmospheric poster for a dance party using the textured, retro look that's so popular nowadays. Tutorial Assets We will make use of a texture and a photograph. Inception Poster with Repousse in Photoshop CS5. A few days ago I went to the movies with Amanda (@amlight) to watch Inception, the new Christopher Nolan movie. I left the movie theater completely blown away. The story is simply amazing and the director leaves us confused all the time, especially in the end.

Anyway I'm not here to talk about the movie, but instead about how it inspired me to get on Photoshop and try something. Follow this step by step process of designing a timeless swiss style poster design for the imaginary ambient music festival “Bella Musica”, which was held on Ibiza in July 1978. The design process involves turning digital photos into imperfect analog photos with light leaks, dark vignettes and blurred focus, creating patterns, mixing images, textures and blend modes to achive the final design.

“Bella Musica” poster design is directly inspired by the works of Swiss designer Josef Muller-Brockmann. Click on the preview image to see the poster in full size. First things first – we have to turn our perfect digital photo into old style analog photo with imperfections. Colour washes of warm tones, dark vignettes surrounding the shots, blurred focus and light leaks where the film has been excessively exposed, were all common problems that appeared during the processing of film.
