Valve's own Steam Box prototype to start shipping by July. Prototypes of Valveās tiny box that aims to bring PC gaming to the living room, the Steam Box, are set to be shipped out to customers for testing within the next three or four months. Valve head honcho Gabe Newell reported the news to the BBC at the Bafta Game Awards, and subsequently lit the world of PC gaming enthusiasts who dream of gaming from a couch aflame. Newell stated that Valve is currently working with partners to see how quickly they can make the box, and the company will be giving some test units to customers in order to figure out how the Steam Box will be received. So far, Newell revealed that there are both noise and heat issues, and that the challenge in building the Steam Box is dealing with those issues while still being able to provide a powerful, modern gaming experience.
