Does anyone have some insight? Enneagram Central - Enneagram Style Four. The Individualist If Threes are about success, Fours are about authenticity.

Enneagram Central - Enneagram Style Four

Fours have a deep and wide range of emotions and trust their subjective experience to make their life-decisions. They are frequently highly esthetic (not in talent, necessarily, but in concern), because they have a highly developed ability to think symbolically. This coupled with their emotional richness cries out for artistic expression. When healthy Fours make a personal statement in many things they do, from the way they dress to their choice of Impressionist paintings.

When they are less healthy, their speech becomes lamentation as they claim their uniqueness because of their suffering. Enneagram Central - Subtype Four Intimate. Suffering by Comparison The intimate subtype of the Four competes around relationships.

Enneagram Central - Subtype Four Intimate

Competition is rooted in comparison and Fours and Ones both have the perceptual habit of comparing reality to what should be. This makes the One very critical, it makes the sexual (intimate) subtype Four competitive about emotional status, especially their status with the significant person in their life. Fours in general believe that love is by far the most important thing in their lives and the sexual subtype in particular believes that when, and only when, they find the perfect love will they be happy. This is often coupled with the belief that once they had a perfect love. Envy But the competition goes a little further. The romantic tendency of the Fours comes out when the intimate subtype not only wants to be the person the mate loves the most, but what would make it perfect would be if they were the only person the mate ever loved. Their envy can easily become professional envy. Out of my league.

Enneagram Central - Subtype Four Social. An Idealized Self-Image The social Four is depicted in a fine Enneagram movie, Heavenly Creatures.

The storyline is set in England and features two teenage girls, both Fours. The dark haired one, Paula, is a Four with a Five-wing and she is a intimate subtype. Her friend, Gina, is a Four with a Three wing, and she is a social subtype. They are pretty good examples of how the subtypes work. The issue for the social subtype is shame. 4 - Enneagram Type Four: The Individualist. Type Four in Brief Fours are self-aware, sensitive, and reserved.

4—Enneagram Type Four: The Individualist—Overview

What more fruitful way to redressing the balance than by portraying one's inner world in a work of art and then persuading other people to accept it, if not as real, at least as highly significant? Part of the satisfaction which a creative person obtains from his achievement may be the feeling that, at last, some part of his inner life is being accepted which has never been accorded recognition before. Moreover, since art became an individual matter rather than a task for anonymous craftsmen, creative work is generally recognized as being especially apt for expressing the personal style of an individual (which is of course closely related to his inner world). The value we place upon authenticity is often exaggerated; yet there is a sense in which it is justified. In the Feeling Center. Enneagram 4. Enneagram 4

You are so wrapped up in your own quote sensitivity, creativity and intuition unquote that you are completely walled off from other people. You would rather stare at a painting or listen to music than deal with reality. You retreat inside your imagination not because it is profound, but because it's never challenging. Your SECRET JOYS include showing your independence by acting in ways that other people would consider utterly stupid, and expressing your individuality over and over and over and over -- until you are up to your ears in your own unique personal individual rut.

Some of your SECRET FEARS are that people will just get bored with you, that you will end up with a job in an insurance company or bank, that you will actually have to work hard on a regular basis, or that you will get so depressed with your inadequacies that you will kill yourself.
