LAS VEGAS - 2010 International CES – January 7, 2010 – PLR IP Holdings, LLC, owners of the Polaroid brand, today launched a new product line-up at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), including new instant digital products, the long-awaited return of classic Polaroid instant film and a modern version of the OneStep instant film camera, plus new flat panel televisions and more. Polaroid will demonstrate the new products at CES booth #13614, located in Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Additional in-booth activities will include an appearance by Lady Gaga, who was recently named creative director for a specialty line of Polaroid products, an exclusive exhibition of classic fine art photography from the famous Polaroid Collection, and live celebrity portrait sessions by renowned contemporary Polaroid photographer, Maurizio Galimberti.

At the same time, I had started emailing Doc [Dr. Florian Kaps, Impossible Project founder] because I felt like he was one of the few people on the planet who was positioned to do something about Polaroid. He had started Unsaleable, which sold Polaroid film and equipment, and he had been talking with people at Polaroid for years for various reasons—for the SX-70 Blend film and the TZ Artistic film, which were both made by Polaroid but only because Doc had lobbied to have them made.

En 2010, Polaroid remettra en vente des films argentiques, ciblant les photographes passionnés et professionnels. La marque américaine travaillera en partenariat avec The Impossible Project. Un appareil numérique avec mini-imprimante intégrée, le « Polaroid Two » est destiné au grand public. En mai 2008, Polaroid est en pleine déconfiture. Les 75 salariés du site de production d'Enschede aux Pays-Bas sont remerciés.

Le déclin de la photographie instantanée a été proportionnel au succès de la photographie numérique. Polaroid, racheté en 2005 par le financier Tom Petters (qui depuis a été mis sous les verrous pour escroquerie dans une autre affaire), voit ses ventes chuter vertigineusement. En juin 2008, l'usine d'Enschede ferme, après une longue agonie, laissant douze cents salariés au chômage.
