Confidence tricks and scams are difficult to classify, because they change often and often contain elements of more than one type. Throughout this list, the perpetrator of the confidence trick is called the “con artist” or simply “artist”, and the intended victim is the “mark”. Get-rich-quick schemes[edit] Get-rich-quick schemes are extremely varied; these include fake franchises, real estate “sure things”, get-rich-quick books, wealth-building seminars, self-help gurus, sure-fire inventions, useless products, chain letters, fortune tellers, quack doctors, miracle pharmaceuticals, foreign exchange fraud, Nigerian money scams, charms and talismans.

Variations include the pyramid scheme, the Ponzi scheme, and the Matrix sale. Count Victor Lustig sold the “money-printing machine” which he claimed could copy $100 bills. Salting [edit] Spanish Prisoner [edit] Persuasion tricks[edit] LARPwriting.org - Three Rules... In a discussion on another blog: I made a post I was so enamored with I am reproducing it here. Context aside, these are three good rules to use when GMing in any situation. They were written in reference to a discussion of player complaint responses Three rules: 1) Do not cater to crippled roleplayers. That's cruel, but it's right. Look some people can't roleplay their way out of a wet paper bag, or are simply too shy to get along in a group. But I can't fix broken roleplayers. My advice - be brutal and clear about this. 2) Do not overreactThe fact that Bob Roleplayer has a problem does not mean a problem exists.

Stop...look...listen... Don't let someone else tell you that there is a problem. I will say offhand that the two areas where this gets ugliest are sex, cheating and safety. Take a deep breath. That's the basic rule. "Look Joe, I hear all you're saying about Cathy cheating in the game. But that's not all... Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket. Terrorwerks.com. Nightclub Security, Managing Obnoxious Patrons, security consultant, Chris McGoey, nightclub security expert. Managing Obnoxious Patrons Nightclubs and bars can be an exciting business, but with it comes special problems. Trendy nightclubs attract a younger crowd looking for a place to party. The notoriety of a hot club brings crowds of young men and women who will stand in line for hours just to be part of the nightclub scene. This sounds like nightclub owner’s dream, but with that success comes control problems associated with young adults, too much testosterone, alcohol, and drugs all crowded together in a small space.

Because of this, nightclubs need to have a security plan in place when obnoxious or intoxicated patrons cause trouble. Sometimes nightclub patrons bring outside conflicts and jealousies into the club that erupts into violence. Customer Contacts Contact with an obnoxious customer should begin at the first sign of trouble. When it’s Time to Go Unfortunately, in any nightclub a time will come when a patron must be asked to leave. Use of Force When to Call the Police? A man who dressed up as Buho, a female elf, has been convicted by a jury at Belfast Crown Court of taking underwear from a shop in a knifepoint raid. Robert Boyd, 45, from Broadlands in Carrickfergus, held up staff at the Orchid shop in Belfast disguised in a wig, hat and glasses. He told the court he had been in a role-playing game at the time and may have blurred reality and fantasy. Boyd was released on bail. Sentencing was adjourned for probation reports. In court on Thursday, ten jurors dismissed Boyd's defence and two believed it. During the three-day trial, the jury heard that Boyd wore a disguise of a blonde curly wig, reading glasses and a beany hat. He armed himself with a knife before stealing two sets of bras, pants, suspender belts and stockings from the lingerie shop on the Lisburn Road.

Warnings. Jeepform, Freeform and Terminology. Please observe that the lists below are NOT manifestos. They may be thought of as de-facto jeep tradition, or they may be thought of as guidelines. They are good for making decisions, either agreeing or disagreeing with points. In some sense, they loosely describe Jeepform, the kind of freeform role-play at the heart of Vi åker Jeep's games. Larpwriting: Community Based LARP.

Note - this references two related threads: Community Based LARP About two years ago I first began using the term "Community Based" LARP to describe a specific theory for organizing and running local LARP campaigns. I wrote about the concept at the time, but realized that while I've come to rely heavily on the term, I haven't written anything more about what it means. Also since then, the “Community Based” concept has been developed considerably. Some of the initial concepts were weak, or did not work well in practice. That brought me to publishing a much more detailed description. Every stakeholder has a right to be involved in the decision making of the group, but a group cannot be a complete democracy because some participants have a substantially greater stake than others.

Community Based LARP is not the only, best, or perfect model for running LARP. Treasure Tables » Getting Inspired by LARPs. Every year at GenCon, I try to make it a point to play in at least one LARP (Live Action Role-Playing game). The main reason, of course, is that LARPs can be a lot of fun — and since they’re production-intensive, I don’t tend to get too many chances to play them. LARPing is also a good source of inspiration, and for day 28 of the Blogging for GMs project, I’m going to look at 6 ways that LARPs can give you fresh ideas about GMing. First off, it’s worth mentioning that I’m not saying you shouldn’t play LARPs all the time — plenty of people do, with good reason! I do think, however, that there are a lot less LARPers than tabletop players, so I’m approaching this from the standpoint that if you’ve never tried LARPing before, you can enjoy doing so and take away some useful knowledge for your tabletop game at the same time.

(Here's a cross-post from the MET forum on the White Wolf homepage.) All- First of all, let me thank everyone who has posted and emailed on this topic, both here and in a variety of other forums. Obviously, the reaction to our pay-for-play policy has been vocal and largely critical, but believe it or not, I'm happy about that.

Getting feedback and comments from our fans, customers and fellow-gamers is very important to me, and in many ways negative comments are the most useful. It's also heartening to see and hear from people who obviously care very deeply about their hobby. My apologies to those I haven't had the chance to respond to personally. Clearly, I have failed to communicate our intentions and goals with this policy -- both in discussions online and off, and in the wording of the policy itself. Look, y'all, I respect intellectual property and the need to control your trademark and which-have-you. I don't think people should print up White Wolf t-shirts and sell them without giving a little back to the Wolf. I do not think it would be fair use to publish, say, a sourcebook or rules set for White Wolf - sell it for money and not expect White Wolf to can your butt.

But now White Wolf wants to license you if you decide to run a LARP and charge for it: to license and charge for an experience created out of their Intellectual Property. And that's plain wrong. Running LARPs for money is not a business plan that would ever get anyone anywhere: it's just not a good business. Nobody ever got rich running LARPs. And yet, for some reason, White Wolf has now decided that, come January, they're going to charge you for the privilege of running a for-pay LARP and playing in a for-pay LARP that others run.

I predict that four things will happen: 1.) 2.) 3.) 4.) Oh well. Live Action Roleplayers Association: News. Main Page - LARPAWiki.
