BikeCAD for the Web allows builders to post their own customized version of BikeCAD on their own web site. The applet in the new BikeCAD.ca website saves BikeCAD models to a mySQL database using the Drupal content management system. For the first time since I started the blog eight years ago, readership was down a bit from the previous year (the blog had just 953,053 pageviews in 2013, compared to 1,236,847 in 2012). Since I took a 2 month break from blogging starting in September, most of those views were in the first ¾ of the year, and it is no surprise that the numbers were down overall.

Another factor in the decline of direct visitors to the blog though has been the growth of mobile users. Views from Google Currents/Newsstand are not factored in to those 2013 numbers, but that is the fastest growing way that people are finding and reading the content here at Bicycle Design these days. As usual, Google, Facebook, and Twitter referred the most traffic, but Pinterest moved way up in 2013. Posted by Ray | 16 Nov 2012 | Comments (2) Wish I could make it out to Cali for this one: Rapha San Francisco Cycling Club is pleased to present All Chips On the Table: The Bicycle Art and Design of Garrett Chow, an exhibition featuring Chow's work as Lead Graphic Designer at Specialized, as well as his graphics for MASH, the urban cycling brand which he co-founded. Per Rapha: From the co-creation of MASHSF to bicycle paint schemes for cyclocross star Zdeneck Stybar and Tour de France winner Alberto Contador, Garrett has been a continual inspiration in the bicycle industry with designs, illustrations and paint jobs over the years. The exhibit is your chance to see all of this live and direct. While the exhibition opened two weeks ago, a couple image sets hit the web earlier this week—shots from Mike Martin of MASH (reproduced here with permission) and Bike Rumor as well—a welcome dose of pure bike porn to supplement the tantalizing teaser photos from Rapha.

Any bike shop that stocks only certain bicycle brands will often swear the one they carry in-store is the best. As a general rule, bicycles of a certain style within a similar price range, are quite comparable wth each other. British Eagle, Magna or Huffy Bicycle that can be purchased at a department store. By the same token, an entry level Giant road bike is similar to an entry level Trek, and mid level Specialized Bikes are similar to those from Cannondale. NOTE: Department store brands of bike are generally not comparable to any reputable bicycle brands that are sold in bike shops. (Although you probably won't be making a purchase decision between Huffy Bicycles and Pinarello Bicycles.)

After doing a considerable amount of research into MicroSHIFT, I decided to purchase the 10-Speed "BONA" group to replace my aging 9-Speed Ultegra set-up. There are plenty of opinions and valid information about MicroSHIFT, but I wanted to share my experiences too, just in case you are considering this as an option for your bike.Why Replace Shimano Ultegra? My 9-Speed group was showing its age. When it worked, it worked great, but a randomly slipping right hand shifter convinced me that it might be wise to replace it before I am left stranded without access to the full rear cluster. Besides that, the Ultegra group was ridden hard and showed quite a few scrapes with the asphalt. In short, I also wanted something new and shiny. The Verdict It's too early to tell, as I have barely any miles on the MicroSHIFT components, but for the first 150 miles, I have not been disappointed.
