Skiing with view on the ocean

Photos from Cypress Mountain - Lower Mainland - BC - Canada Cypress Bowl is the best ski area around Vancouver. How many cities in the world have three ski hills located in them? Being literally in Vancouver, it is great for hiking in summer and skiing in winter. Half way up, there is a great view of Vancouver, and on a sunny day, you can see Mount Baker in the US.

My first trip was Dog Mountain which is a small peak just off of Mt. Seymour. We headed to the west end of the parking lot and the trail is just to the left of the ski run. You drop down into the forest and follow rolling hills until you reach the peak .

We managed to drive to the trailhead and with an early start we had reasonable (but a bit sticky) corn for the descent. It was a great day to be out in the mountains!

Garibaldi provicial park

Last weekend I braved the Sea-to-Sky highway and headed up to Garibaldi Park to do some hiking. Thinking that I've walked in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer for the last three years (60K) and therefore was very well prepared to tackle the 18K return hike to Garibaldi Lake is really kind of funny in retrospect. Of course, I didn't realize at the time that the first 6K are a set of switchbacks that take you straight up the mountainside -- an 810 metre elevation change. http://2010vancouver.ca/hiking-garibaldi-not-an-easy-climb-but-sooo-worth-it-023054.php
http://www.seethenorthshore.com/btal/btal.htm Black Tusk is one of the most recognizable features in the Sea to Sky area. Situated in Garibaldi Provincial Park reaching the summit is possible as part of a one day (strenuous) hike and climb excursion. Usually it is a part of a two day expedition because of all the options available in conjunction with this destination.

Panorama Ridge

http://www.johnharveyphoto.com/PanoramaRidge/index.html I've been up to Garibaldi Lake three times before this hike including last year where I met Helen. The last three times I've completed the hike, we hiked up to the lake, (9km), around to taylor meadows (~5km) and back down again (23km for the day). This makes for a long day and sore muscels the next day but it does get you access to some amazing terrain. Helen's job gave her a Friday off, I took one off and we decided to camp two nights at Garibaldi Lake and on our day up there, go climb Panorama ridge.
