Rachel Maddow On Romney's Lies, 'It's a Character Issue, and I find it Disqualifying' Rachel Maddow On Romney’s Lies, ‘It’s a Character Issue, and I find it Disqualifying’ By: Sarah Jones Oct. 23rd, 2012 more from Sarah Jones Rachel Maddow believes Mitt Romney isn’t fit to be president. While talking about his lies and shifting policies she said, ‘It’s a character issue, and I find it disqualifying.’ Here is the video: Maddow said was talking about Romney’s complete reversal of his policy on the war when she said, That political calculation makes so much sense to me, if there were not 68,000 American lives on the line. And that’s what infuriates me, because this is a real war. I am certain that anyone on the right or left who cares about facts and honesty probably agrees with Maddow, but facts and honesty aren’t the media world that we are living in.

However, President Obama would likely be better served not to spend the final two weeks on the campaign trail chasing those ghosts. Romney’s shape shifting should be a disqualifying issue, but it has become a strength. Report: Romney Lied in Court And Then Screwed Over His Friend's Wife During Nasty Divorce With Staples Founder. Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” remarks codified an image of the candidate as only caring about the rich and willing to screw over the rest of the population. A report on the gossip news website TMZ.com could add to that perception. TMZ reports today that Romney lied “under oath when he testified in the divorce of his good friend and screwed the friend's wife out of a lot of money in the process,” according to the wife of the founder of Staples.

The story goes like this: Staples founder Tom Stemberg was in the midst of a nasty divorce with his wife Maureen Stemberg Sullivan. Romney’s testimony helped ensure that Maureen received very little money when the divorce case was resolved. TMZ doesn’t stop there. A Romney lawyer told TIME magazine that the candidate “has no objection to letting the public see that testimony.” Romney Shifts Positions, Videos. Romney, Bain Tied To Voting Machine Company To Be Used in Swing States. Photo: Roger Barone/flickr We’re not really into conspiracy theories here, so let us just say this upfront: we are not presenting the following article as any kind of conspiracy theory. We will say, though, that the people who own voting machines in some important swing states have a pretty remarkable bias toward Mitt Romney and, you know, Okay, so here’s what we know: Hart InterCivic is a national provider of election voting systems that are used in swing-states Ohio and Colorado , as well as in states we don’t really care about so much because we already know how they’ll turn out (e.g., Texas, Oklahoma, and Hawaii).

H.I.G., in turn, has ties to Bain & Co. and Mitt Romney directly: Of H.I.G.’s 22 American directors, 21 donated to Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign. Of these 22 American directors, seven of them (nearly one-third) are former Bain employees . Four of H.I.G.’s directors, Tony Tamer, John Bolduc, Douglas Berman, and Brian D. Links to H.I.G.’s American directors : A $5,000 Shopping Run to Walmart Turned Romney's Campaign Stop into a 'Relief Event' - Politics. Mitt Romney was really concerned that his "Storm Relief Event" in Kettering, Ohio yesterday would look like a dud, so he and his team stocked their donation tables with $5,000 worth of supplies at Walmart. The props, according to Buzzfeed's McKay Coppins, were things like granola bars, canned food, and diapers which were strategically placed to make sure that the photographs taken at Romney's "Storm Relief" campaign didn't a show very un-busy, un-stocked relief table (what else do you expect when you give people short notice to donate their canned goods?).

But ... but ... look at how pretty all those fake donations look: And apparently, the event was so manufactured that they allowed supporters to use the donations which were bought by the campaign, to donate back to the campaign. According to Coppins: Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, "What if we dropped off our donations up front? " Fine. Biden on Romney Jeeps-to-China claim: 'Have they no shame?' YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Joe Biden and Bill Clinton delivered a tag-team smack down of Mitt Romney on Monday, taking the Republican presidential nominee to task for a new television ad that they say misrepresents his position on the auto industry bailout and misleads voters about Chrysler’s auto production. “This guy … pirouettes more than a ballerina,” Biden said at a rally here. “Ladies and gentlemen, have they no shame? … It’s an absolutely, patently false assertion.”

Democrats have been howling for days about Romney’s claim at a recent Ohio event that Jeep was “thinking of moving all production to China.” The task fell to Clinton and Biden to amplify the Democrats’ response to Romney’s claim, at a rally in the heart of Ohio’s manufacturing-heavy Mahoning Valley. The vice president said Romney’s claim was “bizarre,” and the latest sign the former Massachusetts governor will “say anything, absolutely anything, to win.”

Michelangelo Signorile: Romney: 'Some Gays Are Actually Having Children. It's Not Right on Paper. It's Not Right in Fact.' We've witnessed many Mitt Romneys, but the one unearthed by the Boston Globe's Murray Waas yesterday is perhaps the most vicious and cruel: a zealot who, as Massachusetts governor, became hellbent on stigmatizing the children of gay and lesbian parents, labeling these kids as outcasts and causing them to suffer hardship throughout their lives. Waas reveals how, after gays and lesbians in Massachusetts won the right to marry in 2003, Governor Romney wouldn't allow the Registry of Vital Records and Statistics to revise birth certificate forms for babies born to same-sex couples. The plan was to have the box for "father," for example, relabeled "father or second parent. " But according to documents obtained by Waas, Romney rejected the plan, demanding the agency continue using old forms.

Those children would then go through life with birth certificates that marked them as strange, abnormal, less than everyone else, punished because Romney didn't approve of their parents. Close. Chrysler CEO calls out Romney over 'inaccurate' Jeep ads. Jacky Naegelen / Reuters By Joseph Szczesny , The Detroit Bureau Despite declaring his desire to stay out of this year’s presidential battle, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has found himself drawn into the fray as he responded to a series of comments and political ads by GOP contender Mitt Romney, which the CEO called "inaccurate.

" The Italian-born Marchionne made it clear in a note sent to Chrysler employees that statements and advertising by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney suggesting the company was moving Jeep production from its assembly complex in Toledo, Ohio, to China simply were not true. “Chrysler Group’s production plans for the Jeep brand have become the focus of public debate,” the Chrysler CEO said in the statement that was also released to the media. For his part, Marchionne has tried to sidestep the ongoing debate, and in his note he continued to insist he wanted to avoid getting involved in politics, insisting, “I’m the furthest things from a politician.

Romney switches campaign event to storm relief. LOL Of The Week: Mitt Goes Back To The Future. I admit it. I underestimated Mitt Romney. Knowing that Republican businessmen Herbert Hoover and George W. Bush were the worst presidents of the last century, I was pleased when the personification of America’s hubristic financial sector shambled through the last year as the worst national candidate I’d seen in my lifetime.

Mitt mocked his base, alienated allies and picked a running mate who was only famous for his desire to turn Medicare into an episode of Extreme Couponing. Then, after confirming every bias America has against bumbling plutocrats for months and months, Mitt Romney’s first debate performance was remarkable in its disregard for facts. In a fury of words and indignation, Romney used lies and half-truths to present himself as a moderate father figure who understands the economy and cares about families. It was a strategic wonder. But then in the second debate, America got a more honest glance at Mitt Romney.

Death by Ideology. Romney: 'We Don’t Have People Who Die Because They Don’t Have Insurance' By Rebecca Leber on October 11, 2012 at 9:35 am "Romney: ‘We Don’t Have People Who Die Because They Don’t Have Insurance’" Mitt Romney doubled down on his suggestion that uninsured Americans can find the care they need in emergency rooms, telling The Dispatch that people will always receive the treatment they need, and do not die or suffer because they can not pay for care. He pointed to federal law that requires hospitals to admit emergency patients, repeating his advice that patients rely on the most expensive form of care reserved strictly for emergencies. “We don’t have a setting across this country where if you don’t have insurance, we just say to you, ‘Tough luck, you’re going to die when you have your heart attack,’ ” he said as he offered more hints as to what he would put in place of “Obamacare,” which he has pledged to repeal.

Emergency rooms serve as a place of last resort, but 45,000 Americans still die every year because they lack health insurance, or one every 12 minutes. Romney again promises to defund Planned Parenthood. Speaking to reporters in Ohio today, Mitt Romney emphasized his opposition to abortion after pivoting away from that position in a recent interview. “I think I've said time and again that I’m a pro-life candidate and I’ll be a pro-life president," Romney said.

"The actions I’ll take immediately is to remove funding for Planned Parenthood. It will not be part of my budget. And also I've indicated that I will reverse the Mexico City position of the president. Speaking to the Des Moines Register editorial board Tuesday, Romney said that “there’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda.”

In that interview, Romney mentioned the Mexico City policy -- which would prevent NGOs that receive federal funding from promoting or performing abortions. Romney's comment to the Iowa newspaper drew sharp criticism from Democrats, who cast the remark as an effort by the GOP nominee to draw attention away from his anti-abortion-rights stance. SECRET VIDEO: On Israel, Romney Trashes Two-State Solution. At the private fundraiser held May 17 where Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney candidly spoke about political strategy—noting that he saw half of the American electorate as freeloaders and "victims" who do not believe in personal responsibility—he discussed various foreign policy positions, sharing views that he does not express in public, including his belief that peace in the Middle East is not possible and a Palestinian state is not feasible.

Mother Jones has obtained video of Romney at this intimate dinner and has confirmed its authenticity. The event was held at the home of controversial private equity manager Marc Leder in Boca Raton, Florida, with tickets costing $50,000 a plate. During the freewheeling conversation, a donor asked Romney how the "Palestinian problem" can be solved. "And I look at the Palestinians not wanting to see peace anyway, for political purposes, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel, and I say there's just no way. Yesterday, Mitt Romney attacked President Obama over providing food stamps to so many Americans in a time of need, as if this were a bad thing, as if people in need should not be helped, as if it were not George W. Bush’s policies that took Clinton’s surplus and turned it into the epic disaster from which we are still recovering. Yet, Mitt Romney knows need well. Here is video of Mitt Romney’s mother, Lenore LaFount Romney, talking about how his father George was on welfare relief after he was a refugee from Mexico.

Watch Lenore LaFount Romney, the former First Lady of Michigan from 1963 to 1969 and the Republican Party nominee for the U.S. Senate in 1970, talk about George Romney being on welfare relief: Will this stop Mitt Romney from bashing immigrants or poor people? Mitt Romney is attacking President Obama for feeding poor children. Mitt Doesn’t Care About Your ‘Facts’ It has not escaped attention that Mitt Romney has built his entire campaign on, well, lies. Anybody tuning in to the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night heard and saw “you didn’t build that” roughly fourteen gajillion times. The RNC’s stated theme of Day One was “We Built That.”

Country singer Lane Turner unveiled his new protest song, “I Build That.” New conservative star Mia Love: "This is the America we know, because we built it! " Ann Romney proclaimed that her husband "was not handed success. He built it! " On television, Romney’s main campaign theme is that President Obama has ended the work requirement in the 1996 welfare law and is instead sending out checks.

Both charges are utter fabrications. Conservative pundits not employed by Romney’s campaign have used these objections as a pretext to justify Romney’s lies — what Obama was really doing is bad, so it’s okay for Romney to pretend Obama was doing some different bad thing. This Is How Proud Romney Was to Be Pro-Gay Rights in 1994 - Politics. The scandal behind Romney's new attack ad. Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign has presented the political world with an important test. I’m eager to see whether we pass or fail. First, a little background.

Some Republican governors this year asked the Obama administration for some new flexibility on welfare standards – the governors had some ideas about moving folks from welfare to work and needed the White House to sign off. Obama agreed – existing work requirements would stay in place, but states, if they want to, can take advantage of new flexibility when it comes to experimenting with existing law. This is the sort of shifting-power-to-the-states policy that Republicans are supposed to love. As of this morning, however, it’s the basis for a new Mitt Romney attack ad. It’s important to realize this is as dishonest an ad as you’ll ever see – in 2012 or in any other campaign cycle. For those who can’t watch clips online, the ad shows President Clinton signing welfare reform into law in 1996, “requiring work for welfare.” m8ayzf74tU1qiohhso1_1280.jpg (650×819) Mitt Romney's other tax secret - Jul. 23. Mitt Romney has not released key details of his tax plan. NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- It has become clear that Mitt Romney does not want to release any additional tax returns.

But that's not the only tax issue the presumptive nominee has been reluctant to talk about. He has been equally quiet on a policy question that could have a direct impact on the amount of taxes paid by millions of Americans. Romney has for months touted an ambitious plan that promises massive tax cuts. He has also steadfastly refused to say how he would pay for them. Romney has proposed a 20% across-the-board cut to income tax rates. He also wants to scrap the Alternative Minimum Tax, eliminate the estate tax and chop the tax rate paid by corporations from 35% to 25%. All those cuts mean the government would collect far less revenue. But he hasn't lifted the curtain on which deductions he is planning to curtail. But a campaign official later said that the candidate was "tossing ideas out" and not "unveiling policy. " Romney in 2008 - Flipflops everywhere...
