Cell Phones and SIM Cards in Europe by Rick Steves. By Rick Steves Traveling with a mobile phone is handy and practical. Whether you're using a smartphone or a conventional cell phone, the basics for how to make calls and send texts are the same. Mobile phones aren't for everyone. Some travelers simply don't want to hassle with figuring out how to use their phone in Europe. Others like having an excuse to be out of touch. It's OK — you still have other options for contacting people, from hotel-room phones to pay phones to Internet calling apps on a mobile device. If you do want to go mobile, you have several options: Bring your American phone (if it works in Europe), buy a phone to use in Europe, or rent a phone.

No matter what kind of phone you use, as you cross each border, you'll usually receive a text message welcoming you to the new country's network and explaining how to use their services. Roaming with Your Own Mobile Phone The simplest way to travel with your own phone is to set up an international plan with your carrier. Rates Tips. Barcelona Deals & Discounts. How To Use a Rail Pass. In a nutshell, a reservation is a guaranteed seat on a specific train, assigned to you personally. Whether you need a reservation or not depends on two things: the train you’re on and what type of ticket or rail pass you have. Let’s start with the train you’re on. There are essentially three types that run in Europe, each with different requirements. The first type of train is “Reservations Required.” The second type of train is “Reservations Recommended.” Finally, “Non-Reservable” trains are trains where a reservation is NOT needed or possible. Now let’s talk about tickets and rail passes.

How about some general information that might help? Certain international high-speed trains like Eurostar or Thalys, as well as international overnight trains, have special reservation prices. You also need to keep in mind that rail carriers usually have a limited number of seats for travelers with a rail pass, so be sure to book as soon as possible. That's what the island's tourism board is proposing: A long weekend reunion for less than $600, plus airfare. It's part of a growing industry trend: targeting deep-pocketed, post 50 travelers seeking a retreat from the beaten path. Bermuda's first-ever "College Week Reunion," runs March 15-18 and includes hotel stay and three-day special event passes.

It’s a nod to Bermuda’s famed College Weeks of the 1960s and 1970s (see the nostalgic video below for some campy footage.) "The College Week Reunion will be a great way for folks who may have visited Bermuda during the heyday of their youth to come back and enjoy the island as an adult," Wayne Furbert, Minister of Business Development and Tourism, stated in a press release. "We felt it was about time that adults get to experience their own grown-up Spring Break in a setting that fits their desires for a relaxing, sophisticated experience. Journeying is hard-wired in the human psyche; we migrated from Africa thousands of years ago, walking out of the savannah to the rest of the world. Today, travel is one of the western world's biggest industries. So we travel for knowledge, for pleasure, for enlightenment; to ease the tedium of daily routine and satisfy the imaginings of curious minds. But this is where 'adventure' travel also becomes extremely dangerous -- for tribal peoples.

Tribal lives can be severely disrupted or even threatened by tourism. It can also be lethal for tourists to be anywhere near little-contacted peoples. Tourism poses a great threat to the health of the endangered Jarawa people of the Indian Ocean's Anadaman Islands. So where travel and tribal peoples collide, the reasons for travel need to be carefully analyzed. Overseas Adventure Travel - Small Group Adventure, Value & Discovery.
