Hainish Cycle. The Hainish Cycle consists of a number of science fiction novels and stories by Ursula K. Le Guin. It is set in a alternate history/future history in which civilizations of human beings on a number of nearby stars, including Terra (Earth), are contacting each other for the first time and establishing diplomatic relations, setting up a confederacy under the guidance of the oldest of the human worlds, peaceful Hain. In this history, human beings did not evolve on Earth but were the result of interstellar colonies planted by Hain long ago, which was followed by a long period when interstellar travel ceased. Some of the races have new genetic traits, a result of ancient Hainish experiments in genetic engineering, including a people who can dream while awake, and a world of androgenous people who only come into active sexuality once a month, and can choose their gender.

Sequence of writing[edit] The fifth, The Dispossessed, is the earliest chronologically in the Hainish Cycle. Biology[edit] Yukio (comics) Yukio is an occasional thief by profession, as well as a rōnin, a masterless samurai. Yukio has been portrayed as a free spirit with an almost careless disregard for personal danger. According to her own philosophy of life, living in danger is the ultimate adventure, while the peace of death is the final prize that awaits for every person who has truly lived. While she is highly skilled in the martial arts, Yukio is not a mutant and possesses no super powers. Her specialty weapons are scalpel-like shuriken, of which she can hurl several at a time with deadly accuracy. It has been hinted upon by Wolverine that Yukio's real first name could be "Yukiko".

However, since Logan joked about it and the fact has since then never again been touched upon, its unclear if Yukiko is Yukio's actual real name or not.[1] Later, Yukio and Amiko were attacked by Hellverine (a demonic being who had taken over Wolverine's body in order to kill his loved ones) on the behest of Satan. Amiko Kobayashi. Mariko Yashida. Fictional character biography[edit] She first met the X-Men when they returned from a sojourn in the Savage Land and were asked to help Japan, which was being blackmailed by the terrorist Moses Magnum. Afterward, Mariko was later used by her father as a secondary motivation to maneuver Wolverine into participating in an assassination of a rival by having the superhero inadvertently provide a distraction while protecting his true love/girlfriend from the rival's own assassins. This also had the intended effect of deepening Mariko's disgust for Logan upon witnessing him going berserk in battle, albeit in defense of her.

However, Mariko soon realized that her father was evil and was shaming her family with his sinister schemes. To stop him, Mariko planned to kill her father and then commit seppuku in recompense for the deed. Phaedra, an agent of the Hand, resurrected Shingen and stole a piece of Wolverine's soul to torture him. Other versions[edit] Age of Apocalypse[edit] Exiles[edit] What If? Xavin. Xavin had first appeared to the Runaways, taking on the form of a black male, but changed into a black female just for the sake of Karolina Dean, a lesbian whom she was to marry.[2] Regardless, Xavin is also often seen as a male, simply to be "intimidating".[3] Xavin, often called "Xav" for short, is known for her obnoxious and warlike personality.[4][5][6] She had originally found it hard to fit in with the runaways because of her constant gender switching, and adapted to the group fairly slowly.[7] She is the daughter of the famed Skrull Prince De'zean.[2] Fictional character biography[edit] History[edit] Xavin, in her female form.

When Xavin journeys to Earth to find Karolina Dean, she reveals to Karolina that her parents had one more large secret. The Deans had been exiled from their planet Majesdane for criminal activities. Secret Invasion[edit] As a fugitive[edit] Departure[edit] Powers and abilities[edit] Personality[edit] Reception[edit] Gender Identity[edit] References[edit] Victoria Montesi. Victoria Montesi is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe, who first appeared on the pages of The Darkhold #1 (October 1992). Fictional character biography[edit] However, when pages from the Darkhold are distributed to unsuspecting mortals by a demonic Dwarf and Nash is rendered quadriplegic and comatose following an explosion intended to kill Victoria, she joins with occult expert Louise Hastings and Interpol agent Sam Buchanan to recover the pages as the Darkhold Redeemers.

[volume & issue needed] Midnight Sons[edit] In short order, Victoria deals with the apparent betrayal of Sam and the sacrifice of Louise Hastings, who perishes soon after giving her soul to bring to life many of the Midnight Sons, including Victoria herself. Louise's place in the group is filled by her grandson Jinx, who has the magical ability to nudge luck into his favor. Doctor Strange[edit] Sexual orientation[edit] Victoria Montesi is one of the few Marvel characters identified as lesbian. Karma (comics) Xi'an (pronounced and nicknamed "Shan") Coy Manh was born in the central highlands of Vietnam.

Xi'an's origins are rooted in tragedy. Her father was a colonel in the South Vietnamese army, who was forced to bring his wife and four children on missions. When Xi'an's twin brother, Tran Coy Manh, was attacked by a Viet Cong soldier, Xi'an's power of mind possession emerged to protect him. Tran soon exhibited the identical power, and relished using it cruelly. Reed Richards refers Karma to Professor X, and she becomes his first recruit for his new team of mutant teenagers, the New Mutants. Karma reunites with the original New Mutants when they meet their past selves traveling to the present.[20] Karma evidences expanded telepathic powers, specifically removing the memories of the older New Mutants from the minds of the younger ones. Due to their success in reigning in the dangerous Legion, Karma and the other former New Mutants on the mission are sanctioned as an X-Men squad by Cyclops.

Jackpot (comics) Jackpot is the hero name shared by two fictional comic book characters, Sara Ehret and Alana Jobson, owned by Marvel Comics and primarily appearing in Spider-Man's stories. Jackpot's first appearance was in the Free Comic Book Day giveaway Spider-Man: Swing Shift, released on May 5, 2007 and set in the "Brand New Day" storyline. The character Jackpot, first appeared in the Free Comic Book Day issue Spider-Man: Swing Shift released on May 5, 2007 and written by Dan Slott with art by Phil Jimenez.

Following the character's debut, Jackpot would appear in several The Amazing Spider-Man related titles before gaining her own mini-series Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Jackpot in 2010. Sara Ehret, a pregnant scientist at Phelcorp (a subsidiary of Oscorp) works on gene therapy to cure Parkinson's disease when she is accidentally exposed to "Lot 777". Sara gets revenge and unmasks the Rose, but is forced to change her, and her daughter's, identity; taking the name Alana Jobson. Karolina Dean. Karolina is the group's only lesbian character. She is the only extraterrestrial in the group, except for a period of time when her Skrull fiancee, Xavin, becomes part of the team.[2] Runaways creator Brian K.

Vaughan played a significant role in the character's subsequent development as well as artist/writer Adrian Alphona, both of whom spent most of the first volume of the series hinting that Karolina was romantically attracted to fellow member Nico Minoru. Fictional character biography[edit] The Pride[edit] Personality[edit] As a fugitive[edit] Karolina's twisted dream In the early issues of Runaways, volume 2, Karolina fights under the command of de facto leader Nico. Deportation[edit] In S.W.O.R.D. #2, Karolina is one of the aliens kidnapped by Henry Gyrich in his "aliens go home" policy.[17] He uses pheromones to target Karolina's Majesdanian physiology and leads her away from the Runaways and kidnaps her without difficulty.[17] She was eventually freed along with the other aliens. Inertia (Marvel Comics) Inertia is the name of two separate, but related superheroes from the fictional Marvel Universe. The first Inertia was a character from Earth-712 (the world of the faux JLA characters known as the Squadron Supreme).

Like most of the newer characters created for the Squadron Supreme mini-series, she bore no DC counterpart. Her powers were based on using kinetic energy against the enemy. The second Inertia is a member of the rebooted Squadron Supreme, from the Supreme Power universe, also known as Earth-31916. Alongside the Squadron Supreme, Professor Imam, and Master Menace, Inertia attacked the Nth Man, a universe-absorbing entity that was encroaching into the Earth-712 universe. Inertia had the ability to transfer inertia (momentum) from one person or object to another. Edith's father was the head of an ultra-conservative church and a highly prejudiced and abusive man. In high school, she was attacked and raped by three boys (her classmates).
