Practice Educational Technology. Edutopia. The first time that I tried to scan a quick response (QR) code, I held my iPhone up to a poster on the subway. I was underground without any cell service, and I didn't know that there was such as thing as a QR code reader app. All I knew was that my camera had something to do with it, yet nothing was happening. I understand the temptation that a marketing firm must feel to place a QR code on everything. From a drink coaster to a cereal box, I've seen QR codes just about everywhere. In order for this marketing tactic to work, consumers must embrace the behavior of scanning to access more information, which means that they'd have to see the value in doing this and build a routine for scanning into their everyday lives. The ACES Framework In the classroom, QR codes can be used for a purpose.

To discuss scannable technology integration, I've developed the ACES framework -- access, curate, engage, and share. Access QR codes provide quick and easy access to content hosted on the web. Curate Share. A3: How do we move from substitution to redefining? We must go deeper with tech and model for Ts #satchat. What Is Successful Technology Integration? Technology integration is the use of technology resources -- computers, mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, digital cameras, social media platforms and networks, software applications, the Internet, etc. -- in daily classroom practices, and in the management of a school.

Successful technology integration is achieved when the use of technology is: Routine and transparent Accessible and readily available for the task at hand Supporting the curricular goals, and helping the students to effectively reach their goals When technology integration is at its best, a child or a teacher doesn't stop to think that he or she is using a technology tool -- it is second nature. And students are often more actively engaged in projects when technology tools are a seamless part of the learning process. Defining Technology Integration Willingness to embrace change is also a major requirement for successful technology integration.

SAMR is a framework through which you can assess and evaluate the technology you use in your class. Here is how the video below shared by Candace M explains the SAMR's four levels: Substitution In a substitution level, teachers or students are only using new technology tools to replace old ones, for instance, using Google Docs to replace Microsoft Word. the task ( writing) is the same but the tools are different. Augmentation Though it is a different level, but we are still in the substitution mentality but this time with added functionalities. Modification This is the level where technology is being used more effectively not to do the same task using different tools but to redesign new parts of the task and transform students learning.

Redefinition If you are to place this level in Blooms revised taxonomy pyramid, it would probably correspond to synthesis and evaluation as being the highest order thinking skills.
