How to travel by train from London to France

Take the train to France, the civilised stress-free alternative to flying. Take Eurostar from London to Lille or Paris, then a 186 mph TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) through the French countryside with a glass of red wine in hand to Avignon, Marseille, Nice, Nîmes, Montpellier, Perpignan, Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Rennes or Nantes... Or save time, taking a late afternoon Eurostar to Paris then a couchette on the overnight Train Bleu from Paris to Cannes, Antibes or Nice. It's comfortable and affordable: London to to Lyon or Bordeaux from £109 return, London to Nice, Marseille or Perpignan from £119 return.

Unlike a flight, that's city centre to city centre, with no baggage fees, no airport taxes, significantly less impact on the environment and infants go free. When the 1908 Franco-British exhibition was built on the site that would eventually become known as White City (due to the many pearl white buildings on the exhibition site), two stations were built on the Underground to serve the exhibition.

Underground History - Wood Lane Underground Station

Both stations were originally meant to be open only for the duration of the exhibition but over the years they were regularly used to serve other exhibitions, shows and the athletics track nearby until eventually closed or replaced. Click for larger detail This detail is from a 1912 map entitled Bacon's Up to Date Map of London, showing ELECTRIC RAILWAYS, TUBES & TRAMWAYS. By examining this map you can clearly see the then Metropolitan Line (now Hammersmith & City) coming in from the south via Shepherd's Bush station (now gone as Shepherd's Bush has moved North of Uxbridge Road).

Wood Lane station can clearly be seen just before the line crosses Wood Lane road. Image taken from the roof of Television Centre Car Park Topography The Demolition On Screen. Tales From The Krug. Review: Protrain Cultural Heritage Semmering RailroadDeveloper: Bluesky Interactive, Publisher: Contact SalesReviewed By Matthew PeddlesdenDate: 9 January 2003 By this time most people will recognise the name Pro Train, it has come to stand for leading edge products that come along each time and show you just what Microsoft Train Simulator is capable of.

Curiously this product, the third in the Pro Train series is not called Pro Train 3 - however unlike the other products this one is Austrian rather than German. The version of the product that I am reviewing is the European release from Bluesky Interactive, however it is going to be released in the UK under a title something like Protrains:Austrian Scenic Routes at some point mid to late February for around £24.99 via Contact Sales. Please note that I have taken screenshots of this product at 1600x1200 resolution, and kept the publication images at this size, you'll see why. So what's wrong with the product? Overall Score.
