Another Way to 'Fortify your Love'

I apologize in advance to folks who are anti Valentines day, but things are gonna be a bit on the sweet side over here, at least for today. In addition to our fort that was on Design*Sponge yesterday, Caitlin and I also styled a bedroom for the occasion. By tacking up a few sarongs and oversized scarves, some ribbon and a couple of lanterns, we turned up the exotic romance and turned down the monotony…a few truffles and a splash of champagne…and Valentines Day is served. Be sure to visit the blog later on today as we will be announcing a sugary sweet giveaway. xxx ~J.

Justina’s valentine’s day fort. There are so many different ways to express feelings of love on Valentine’s Day: some are sweet and sentimental, others are bold and celebratory.

For kicks, I’m thinking I might want to surprise my loved one with an amazing and decadent love fort, like this one from designer Justina Blakeney. Justina is the woman behind the LA-based design and consulting firm Compai Creative. She always shows a fearless use of color and has an amazing talent for mixing print and pattern to produce sophisticated, eclectic designs. You can read more about the making of this project from Justina after the jump, and be sure to check out Justina’s Before & After projects, as well.

Materials Instructions For the Fort: 1. Sweatshirt liposuction. GAP-tastic Cowl pattern by Jen Geigley. Knotted Headband with tshirt yarn. I think tshirt yarn is perfect for a knotted headband!

I even have a quick video on how to form the knot. I think we've all seen that fun Knotted Headband by You Seriously Made That - - here's a refresher: Cami did a great job and I followed her tutorial for the "knot" part of the headband. So go there for that. But instead of crocheting long strands, I used Tshirt Yarn. If you're wondering how to make t-shirt yarn, just cut strips from an old tshirt (mine were maybe 3/4 in wide) and then pull on them til they turn in on themselves. Want to see my video tutorial on how to make this knot?? Views from my 4 year old photographer: And a weird self-portrait-in-the-mirror, trying to show the headband: UPDATE: I finally got around to taking a semi-better picture. I think it turned out great and I enjoy the subtly of the gray.

Super quick and easy. Folded Miniskirt Tutorial. Difficulty: Intermediate.

Folded Miniskirt Tutorial

It's based on the Drapedrape dress no 7, and it has the same 'what am I looking at here' feel to it. At one point you'll think, 'what a mess' and then it just clicks and you have a beautiful skirt. This click does not seem to happen with everyone, showing from the comments. If you're not sure about it: wait for the pattern! Fabric: One meter/yard is more than enough. Tools: Nothing fancy, just pins, maybe chalk, ruler, scissors. Step 1: Pattern pieces & measurements The pattern pieces for this skirt are so easy, you can draw your own right on the fabric. 1) front I used my measurements as an example: 100 cm. 2) back The width of the back will then be ([measurement]/2)-10, which is 40 cm for me. 3) lining The lining will have the same width as the front piece (60 for me), but half of the length, which is 33,5.
