Elegant Animal Illustrations Created Using a Moiré Pattern. Milan-based designer Andrea Minini’s abstract portraits of animals feels not-so-abstract thanks to his well-executed use of lines. This beautiful series illustrates an owl, gorilla, cobra, and more, all drawn in a minimalist style. The impressive works started out with only a few lines using Adobe Illustrator, and grew to the complex images that we see here.
Minini achieved this elegant look using a moiré pattern, which is a visual interference caused by overlapping lines in different thicknesses. The result of the intersecting marks creates depth in the work and contours the animal’s body. The use of the morié pattern feels appropriate for illustrations of animals. Our white studio is such a great blank canvas. we were having an office party and wanted something super simple but impactful for the decorations. so why not fill the entire ceiling with colorful balloons?
To add to the beauty, jesi added some pretty metallic brush strokes to random balloons, some gold and some copper. the studio felt like a dream and it was the perfect touch for the party. then we just tied them to a chair and let them dry before releasing them up with the rest. a funny fact: you may notice i am wearing headphones below. ha. while i truly love balloons, i am SO afraid of them popping. so for this shoot we blasted loud music and i wore headphones for any casualties. facing balloon fears… this project came out so pretty!

Airline regulations have resulted in many annoying restrictions for folks who want to bring a little bit of everything along on their travels. Aside from other neat features, this design solves a key problem for such frequent flyers: you can keep up to six liquids in a single container, rather than having small bottles roll around separately inside a little plastic bag in order to fit fill limits. Aside from that, however, the interlocking wheel shape provides extra protective pressure in order to keep each of the mini-containers closed tightly, avoiding the other classic issues of travel toiletries: leaking liquids that can spoil surrounding bags, cases and clothes.
LOAD: Library of Art and Design. Woven balsa wood lampshade. Balsa is one of my all-time favorite materials: It’s cheap and lightweight and easily handles bending, cutting, staining, painting, glueing and pretty much every other technique that comes to mind. It’s also a great resource for creating professional-quality results with few tools, as you can see in this awesome balsa lampshade project from Jamie Samples of Pomp & Circumstance.
Using just a few strips of balsa wood and some glue, Jamie created this modern, organic shade in minutes. I love the braided look of the pieces weaving in and out of one another; it truly feels like a finely crafted technique that only a woodworker would know how to achieve, but luckily it’s extremely DIYable.
