Das DHCP ( D ynamic H ost C onfiguration P rotocol) ist eine "Erweiterung und Ergänzung" des BOOTP (Bootstrap Protocol), welches aber auch die Abwärtskompatibilität zu diesem garantiert (RFC 2131, 1534). Es ermöglicht mit Hilfe eines entsprechenden Servers die dynamische Zuweisung einer IP-Adresse und weiterer Konfigurationsparameter an Computer in einem Netzwerk (z.B. Internet oder LAN).

Insbesondere werde ich darauf eingehen, wie man den BIND für eine Active Directory Domain konfiguriert. Als BIND DNS-Server kam die Version 9.4.0 zum Einsatz.

This paper describes how the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system and Active Directory use Domain Name System (DNS), including requirements for Active Directory support. Active Directory provides centralized accounting, security, and administration. It allows for centralized administration of computers, servers, and services (such as web server services). Active Directory management can be fully automated through script, allows for easy movement, or redistribution of data on servers or server farms, offers security policies which can be used to harden computers automatically, and speeds deployment of configuration changes to computers. Active Directory provides these advantages in any size infrastructure, allowing system administrators to manage more with less overhead.
