Mitacs programs offer many benefits to Canadian faculty members including new ways to connect with Canadian companies through collaborative research projects and a new way to recruit top, international undergraduate students.Distinguished Young Investigator Grant Program As part of the University's 2020 Science and Technology initiative, the Office of the Vice President for Research administers the Fund for Excellence in Science and Technology (FEST) internal grant program for junior faculty research projects in the sciences, engineering, and medicine by providing awards of $50,000 annually for highly innovative research projects that will lead to strong proposals for outside funding and early career recognition. The FEST Distinguished Young Investigator Grant program is open to junior faculty members (tenure track and non-tenure track) in the first three years of their appointment (that is, appointments starting Fall 2008 for July 2011 awards) from science and engineering departments in the College of Arts & Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of Medicine.
Fund for Excellence in Science and Technology (FEST): Research at the University of Virginia
The focus of the week long Institute is to integrate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education into math & science teaching/learning content using the engineering design process. This five day professional development Institute is being offered to only 25 high school educators who teach math or science. If selected, the participants will receive a $600.00 stipend for their Institue attendance and their involvement in the year-long follow-up study.
