Gnome team has launched the long awaited Gnome 3.4.As previous versions of Gnome 3 has rocked the Linux users with its quite brilliant design and interface. The Gnome team is working really hard to fix all the bugs in Gnome 3 by modifying interface and giving some extra look by visual styles and better hardware support.PCLinuxOS Phoenix Edition 2012-02 is now available for download, featuring the following updates. XFCE 4.8.3 Desktop Environment – Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for UNIX-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being visually appealing and user friendly. Kernel – The kernel was updated to version 2.6.38.8. Additional kernels are available from our repositories such as a PAE kernel for computers with more than 4 gigs of memory.

Slackware 13.37 uses the 2.6.37.6 Linux kernel (hence our new $SLACKWARE_VERSION.$KERNEL_VERSION naming system used for this release ;-), and also ships with 2.6.38.4 kernels for those who want to run the latest (and also includes configuration files for 2.6.35.12 and 2.6.39-rc4). The long-awaited Firefox 4.0 web browser is included, the X Window System has been upgraded (and includes the open source nouveau driver for nVidia cards).

Google runs a heavily modified Linux kernel. CNet reports that merging Android with the "mainline" Linux 3.3 should translate to easier programming and accelerated progress for all parties, allowing Google to more exploit new Linux features sooner while reducing efforts to keep Android code in sync with the mainline kernel. In addition, others leveraging Linux across mobile devices can benefit from improvements included in Google's separate fork. The Inquirer adds the merger could theoretically result in support for Android applications running on Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Mint.

Ubuntu le célèbre système d’exploitation libre de la société Canonical basé sur la distribution Linux Debian sera disponible dans sa version 12.04 LTS à partir du 26 avril 2012. Baptisée « The Precise Pangolin », il s’agit de la seizième version d’Ubuntu, la quatrième à être maintenue à long terme (LTS pour Long Time Support). Contrairement aux précédentes versions soutenues à long terme, Ubuntu 12.04 sera maintenue pour une durée de 5 ans, et non plus 3 comme auparavant, soit jusqu’en avril 2017 ! Le pangolin, petit mammifère insectivore qui vit dans les régions tropicales et équatoriales d’Afrique et d’Asie du Sud-Est, est censé ici évoquer la robustesse et le degré de finition qu’ont voulu apporter les développeurs à la création de cette version maintenue à long terme.
