EDUCATOR’S GUIDE – Facebook for Educators EDUCATOR’S GUIDE – Facebook for Educators Linda Fogg Phillips, Derek Baird, M.A., & BJ Fogg, Ph.D. Educators have traditionally helped parents teach young people about appropriate behavior towards others. Now, with the explosion of social media, educators can be part of a larger conversation with young people about digital citizenship and online behavior. We will discuss more about what digital citizenship means in Section 4. As educators you can instruct them in safe, ethical, and responsible Internet use.
If you have been salivating at an independent client to use for Facebook messenger, you download is awaiting. It would appear that the Facebook messenger for Windows is available according to techit.co.il . It is being reported that this is a private installation file that is being sent around internally at Facebook but was shared with outsiders in celebration of the new year. The messenger, like you would expect, operates independently of a web browser, allowing you to chat with your friends on Facebook independently of the website. The application comes with everything that you would expect and contains the classic functionality needed for conversation. Facebook Platform Update: New Token Requirements, Photo and Video Graph APIs Facebook has announced two changes that are significant for at least some groups of developers on the platform, per its blog post of updates for this past week. Access tokens are now required for user walls and news feed posts, and the change goes live in a week. Photos now also have more advanced tagging options in the Graph API. For the first change, the Graph API PROFILE_ID/feed/ for a Page, Application, User or Group as well as the PROFILE_ID/posts for a Page or User are going to require a vaild access_token to access the wall or posts of the corresponding graph object. Direct FQL queries to the stream table will need to reflect this change for posts on a wall. Here’s Why the Future of Facebook Just Looks Grim Facebook is on track to generate more than $4 billion in ad revenue this year. That’s a pretty hefty number for a company still in its infancy. Right now, talk around the virtual campfire suggests a valuation stabilizing at around $70 billion for the company, as some of the irrational exuberance on SharesPost isn’t expected to hold. Everything is looking good for Facebook … at least on the surface. If you think about how the social media environment works, however, it’s easy to wonder if this company can really go the distance. According to eMarketer, 90 percent of Facebook’s revenue comes from its ad business. Here’s Why the Future of Facebook Just Looks Grim

Facebook as an Instructional Technology Tool | Emerging Internet Technologies for Education Facebook as an Instructional Technology Tool | Emerging Internet Technologies for Education Can the wildly popular social network be used constructively in the classroom? This student’s story says it can. Yesterday, student Kristen Nicole Cardon submitted a comment in response to my post 5 Reasons Why Educators Need To Embrace Internet Technologies in which she explained how she used Facebook in a course she took. I really appreciated her well stated discussion of how Facebook was used in the course and how the approach succeeded (slightly edited in the following excerpt). “In my British Literary History course last winter semester, my professor created a class facebook group which we all joined.
