http://www.atelier.net/node/214594 The thing that stops many new Twitter users in their tracks is the visual chaos. Twitter is a messy place, with short verbal blasts and bit.ly links flying in all directions, a far cry from the minimalist restraint of Facebook profiles.

Tweets mix

What proportion of tweets with links? If you add all news, spam and self promotion + 50-80% of pass along + 20-30% of conversational that would make around 25-30% of tweets with links. Optimistic? by wallen Sep 29

80% sheeps

Let’s face it, most people are sheep. It is much easier to follow than to lead, and on Twitter it is no different. A full 80 percent of Twitter accounts have fewer than 10 followers, according to an analysis of seven million Twitter accounts provided to TechCrunch by Web security firm Purewire (which operates TweetGrade ). http://techcrunch.com/2009/06/06/on-twitter-most-people-are-sheep-80-percent-of-accounts-have-fewer-than-10-follower/
Though recent studies have documented women’s dominance on Facebook, MySpace and other popular social media, a new Harvard Business School study reveals that men may actually be the driving force on Twitter. http://www.marketingcharts.com/interactive/tweeting-men-buck-female-socnet-dominance-trend-9437/harvard-business-school-cumulative-percent-twitter-users-ranked-contribution-june-2009jpg/

The More Followers You Have, The More You tweet?

Oh, the burdens of popularity. We already know that most people on Twitter are sheep with few followers and who don’t Tweet much. But what about the rams? http://techcrunch.com/2009/06/10/the-more-followers-you-have-the-more-you-tweet-or-is-it-the-other-way-around/

40% retention

Our recent post about how the majority of people who use Twitter wind up abandoning the service received a lot of great coverage and feedback. We also received a healthy amount of criticism from the Twitter community who were concerned that our study sold Twitter short because it failed to take into account applications and other websites that feed into the Twitter community. So, as an update, we went beyond just Twitter.com, adding in more than 30 websites and applications that feed into the Twitter community including: TweetDeck, TwitPic, Twitstat, Hootsuite, EasyTweets, Tumblr, and many others.

The Decline of Twitter.com; Not Twitter | Mark Evans Tech
