Facebook is preparing to celebrate crossing 500 million monthly active users, AllFacebook reports. Our guess is that Facebook crossed 500 million some time ago, and is just preparing the announcement now in order to bounce bad news out of the press. Last week, Facebook told Search Engine Land "the user number milestones we announce publicly do not always correspond to the exact date we reach these milestones."

Paris-based video sharing site Dailymotion SA has landed a fresh round of funding to help it compete with U.S. rival YouTube, which has been gaining strength in Europe since it launched local versions of its service in June. Like YouTube, Dailymotion invites visitors to pick from a huge variety of streaming videos, or to upload their own videos to its site. On Friday, the company landed an additional US$34 million in venture capital funding to continue its development, a spokeswoman said.

New users aren't signing up for Twitter like they used to, according to numbers provided to WebProNews by a developer with access to Twitter's API. 9.4 million users tweeted for the first time in July, and that monthly total has only declined in the four months since. Keep in mind, though, that while the month-over-month numbers don't look great, Twitter is still growing at a much faster pace at the end of 2009 than it was in the beginning. 7.1 million new users tweeted in November 2009, whereas only 1.3 million people joined the service in January.If you’re a believer in big ideas and are looking to work at a well-funded, pre- IPO company where you can truly have an impact, perhaps you’re right for one of our current jobs.
