Most public pension systems do not disclose performance data from the venture capital and private equity funds in which they have invested. The few that deviate from that norm -- CalPERS, CalSTRS, Oregon, etc. -- take great pains to remind viewers that the so-called "J-curve" skews returns for immature funds. After all, the internal rate of return (IRR) of a fund raised in 2009 means about as much as a football team's pre-season record.

http://blogs.wsj.com/venturecapital/2010/08/30/what-a-double-dip-recession-would-mean-for-venture-capital/ The following guest post comes from Mark Suster , a venture capitalist who last October warned that the economy’s resurgence was only temporary and that there was a strong possibility of a “double dip” recession.
BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 09/14/10 -- Returns for private equity and venture capital funds remained positive for the fourth consecutive quarter, which ended March 31, 2010, and continued to benefit from improving valuations for public equities. However, first quarter performance for both private asset classes was lower than in either of the two previous quarters. Also for the fourth consecutive quarter, private equity outperformed venture capital; both, however, lagged public market returns during the first quarter and for the 12-month period ending March 31, according to Cambridge Associates LLC , provider of independent research and investment advice to institutional investors and private clients.

VC Fundraising Shrinks 82% in Q2 09

Quite a drastic drop. However, it is normal as there is always a lag-time in fundraising of 6-12 months. I suspect next quarter won't be great either as very few funds would have started a fundraising 6-9 months ago. by wallen Jul 13
