But we had a chance to talk with Friendfeed cofounder Bret Taylor (pictured right) and Facebook VP Products Chris Cox a few minutes ago to discuss the deal and the product integration plans going forward.

Il n’en reste pas moins un obstacle de taille, non seulement pour l’intégration – au final assez peu probable – des deux services, mais également pour la mutation de Facebook en service, celui de la gestion de la vie privée, qui là encore fonctionne de façon radicalement différente entre Friendfeed – où tout est ouvert – et Facebook, où l’on partage ses informations au sein d’un cercle restreint d’amis.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it: This is not as ridiculously huge of a deal as the Silicon Valley hype machine is going to have you believe. Basically, FriendFeed has been coasting on a lot of hype and not a lot of mainstream recognition, and it's not a bit surprising that it would be seeking an exit at this point.

So, Facebook has acquired FriendFeed . But what does it mean? Well despite the rhetoric of some that this is a minor deal because FriendFeed’s audience was small compared to that of its acquirer Facebook, or even Twitter, this deal should actually have some wide-reaching implications for the future of how many of us use the web socially.

To attack Twitter or Google? My guess is that it's to attack real time seach... hence Google's current predominance in search. In the process, it will of course clash with Twitter's ambition in real-time search by Aug 11
