George Lakoff - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DyNet Software | CASOS

http://www.casos.cs.cmu.edu/projects/DyNet/index.php The purpose of the DyNet project is to develop the equivalent of a flight simulator for reasoning about dynamic networked organizations. Through a unique blending of computer science, social networks and organization theory we are creating a new class of tools for managing organizational dynamics. The core tool is DyNet - a reasoning support tool for reasoning under varying levels of uncertainty about dynamic networked and cellular organizations, their vulnerabilities, and their ability to reconstitute themselves. Using DyNet the analyst would be able to see how the networked organization was likely to evolve if left alone, how its performance could be affected by various information warfare and isolation strategies, and how robust those strategies were in the face of varying levels of information assurance.
Applying for a ResearchCyc License ResearchCyc is a version of the Cyc technology designed specifically for use by researchers. Cyc is the world's largest and most complete general knowledge base and commonsense reasoning engine. The natural language facilities of ResearchCyc include a rich lexicon, multiple parsers, and an English-language generation capability. (Note that Version 1.0 of OpenCyc contain English strings corresponding to Cyc terms, but no additional NL capabilities.) ResearchCyc also includes additional functionality, such as Semantic Knowledge Source Integration (SKSI), a Java-based Fact Entry Tool, a Query Formulator, and an ontology exporter.

Many historical processes are dynamic. Populations grow and decline. Empires expand and collapse. Religions spread and wither. Natural scientists have made great strides in understanding dynamical processes in the physical and biological worlds using a synthetic approach that combines mathematical modeling with statistical analyses.

Visualizing the ‘Power Struggle’ in Wikipedia : A Beautiful WWW

A new visualization Bruce Herr and I recently completed is being featured in this week’s New Scientist Magazine (the article is free online, minus the viz). They did a good job jazzing up the language used to describe the viz–’power struggle’, ‘bubbling mass’, ‘blitzed articles’–but they also dumbed down the technical accomplishments. I guess not everyone gets as excited about algorithms as I do. Before I talk anymore about the viz, though, let me mention its appearing at the NetSci 2007 Conference this week, and hopefully a varient will appear at Wikimania later this summer as well. http://abeautifulwww.com/2007/05/20/visualizing-the-power-struggle-in-wikipedia/#links

Narratives - QED

Globalization involves movement—of people, goods, cultures, etc. One of the challenges of analyzing and displaying this phenomenon is that static images and text fail to convey the historical complexities and geographical patterns. In this section, we use different forms of animation to represent movements across time and space. We plan to include narratives of many forms of human contact and exchange as detailed below. Please select one from the following pull-down list. Migrations
