http://www.cannistraro.com/mentoring.html Mentoring plays an integral role in preparing talented, young professionals for meaningful careers in our industry. Cannistraro welcomes co-op students each semester to gain hands-on work experience as engineers, estimators and CAD/BIM designers. Through strong partnerships with various colleges and universities, students spend a semester visiting active job sites and working on current projects alongside experienced Cannistraro professionals.

The Be2Awards | 2012 @Be2Talks at Be2Awards

Inspiration for the built environment Be2camp events share many characteristics of TED and TEDx Talks ( see below ), so we emulate a lot of the format but with a particular focus on built environment, sustainability and technology : hence, @ Be2TALKS . On 26 September 2012 at the Building Centre in London our industry thought leaders will share ideas and insights on technology, the built environment and the power of social media. Compered by the inimitable Bernie Mitchell , @Be2TALKs forms part of the built environment awards for social media event, the Be2awards .

1972 Munich Olympic Stadium BIM - Specified ™

Posted by joya.kemper in BIM , Videos on August 9th, 2012 - Building on the Olympics theme, I have just found a video which builds the 1972 Munich Olympic Stadium in ArchiCAD. The Munich Olympic Stadium was designed by Günther Behnisch and Frei Otto, and built by Bilfinger Berger. Apparently the sweeping transparent canopy was supposed to imitate the Swiss Alps and symbolize a new Germany. The BIM stadium looks awesome and quite similar to the actual stadium that is situated in the Olympiapark München, as seen in the photo below!

Open BIM? Says who? | BIM, the Built Environment and Stuff

So straight out of Budapest….and Boston comes the PR Release of Open BIM. I am for Open BIM, I love the idea of working in a platform agnostic environment and make the building all about the data not the platform, however, when Open BIM is made up of a consortium of companies that have a vested interest in the process, such as Nemetshek , Tekla and Trimble at least the antennae are going to go up. “ Open BIM Programme is a marketing campaign initiated by GRAPHISOFT®, Tekla® and other members of buildingSMART ® to urge and facilitate globally coordinated promotion of the Open BIM concept throughout the AEC industry, with aligned communication and common branding available to programme participants.” This is taken right from the buildingSMART website. Now buidlingSMART appears to be the outgrowth of the IFC initiative which was started by Autodesk in 1994, however, Autodesk now does not appear to be a part of this?

Calling All Writers: Do You « Cannon Design Blog

Calling All Writers: Do You <3 BIM? In honor of Valentine’s Day, Cannon Design is launching a creative writing competition for the love of BIM. Everyone in Cannon Design is invited to submit a short piece extolling their love and affection for building information modeling (BIM). The most compelling piece penned by an employee of Cannon Design will win a trip to the Revit Technology Conference (RTC) USA in Stone Mountain Georgia. Those outside Cannon Design are ineligible to win the top prize but are still encouraged to send in their prose. The best submissions will be featured on our firm’s blog.

The Information Content of BIM

The application of general information theory to pragmatic problems within the architecture, engineering, construction, owner and operator (AECOO) industry is explored in this article. Some basic principles about the nature of information and how it provides value are defined and applied to current issues in the use of building information modeling (BIM) and integrated project delivery (IPD) in design and construction. The analysis exposes some common misconceptions that have led to unsatisfactory results and tensions within the industry. It concludes that the general principles of information theory are applicable to BIM and that this approach will enhance the way BIM and IPD are discussed.

The Best AEC Apps for the iPhone and iPad | BIMable.org

There are nearly 500 apps in the App Store tagged as “construction” or “architecture.” This is great news for professionals in the AEC industry, except it’s really tough to filter out the junk. Among the list are apps categorized as “games,” “lifestyle” and “entertainment.” Specifically, you’ll find titles like “SimCity Deluxe” and “Railroad Puzzle.” Sure, there is a time and place for every app, but these don’t belong on the job site. So, Software Advice has created a list of the best architecture, engineering and construction project management software apps available for the iPhone and iPad.
Technology changes everything, even in construction. Traditional building methods are being modernized with technology that improves the quality and efficiency of your building. Utilizing the full dimension of BIM, Cannistraro is truly building with intelligence. “Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the process of using digital models for design, construction and/or operations of a project.” -McGraw Hill Construction We create construction-ready models that enable off-site pre-fabrication.

Construction Technologies

Building Information Modeling Blog: How BIM make the precast concrete process easier for structural engineers

Precast concrete is a process associated with construction where concrete is cast in recyclable moulds and alleviated in a controlled environment. It is then transferred to the construction site and lifted and fixed in the structure. BIM provides some great benefits to owner, architect, structural engineer, precast fabricator and erection crews who mutually work in a prescast construction process. BIM technology can be applied to improve the quality of precast engineering design regarding drawings and exactness & consistency of the documents.
