Micropolis - Janne Saario Landscape Architecture. Micropolis Micropolis is a public park in Helsinki. The starting point in the design was to create a collage-type garden with shapes suited for skateboarding. Micropolis consists of various forms from the streets, of green areas and an organically shaped pool. The objective was to preserve all the trees in the area.
A network of green areas, connected with lawn corridors, runs inside the park. The hares of the Central Park used to feed here at nights. Architects Staufer Hasler The new high school located on the periphery of Wil is surrounded by a mix of industrial and peripheral uses, former gravel pit and housing blocks from the 1980’s. The new design for the open space takes on a peculiar double-identity: an outdoor lounge-scape for 700 teenagers and surrounding inhabitants is played against an interpretation of the surrounding oaks and gravel landscape into a generous, strong identity in accordance with the atmosphere of the new building. Underground city is a work of the Berlin artist, EVOL in rural Hamburg, Germany created as a project for Ms. Dockville arts and music festival. The project took eight days to be completed and it will be on display till the end of the festival on August 14th. Placed right in the heart of the Marseille’s World Heritage-listed harbour, the pavilion is a simple and discrete structure representing a canopy made of highly reflective stainless steel which tapers towards the edges, minimising its profile and reducing the structure’s visual impact. "Marseille’s Vieux Port is one of the grand Mediterranean ports, but over time the World Heritage-listed site has become inaccessible to pedestrians and has been cut off from the life of the city. The masterplan for its regeneration will reclaim the quaysides as a civic space, creating new informal venues for performances and events and removing traffic to create a safe, semi-pedestrianised public realm. Its transformation is one of a series of projects to be completed in time for the city’s inauguration as European Capital of Culture in 2013.
