Smart Energy Overview

“In 2014, global revenues for home energy management equipment and services will reach $3.3 billion from an aggressive viewpoint. ZigBee will make up about half of the global home energy management market at this time (this includes wired and wireless systems).” ZigBee Smart Energy is the world's leading standard for interoperable products that monitor, control, inform and automate the delivery and use of energy and water. It helps create greener homes by giving consumers the information and automation needed to easily reduce their consumption and save money, too. ZigBee Smart Energy version 1.1, the newest version for product development, adds several important features including dynamic pricing enhancements, tunneling of other protocols, prepayment features, over-the-air updates and guaranteed backwards compatibility with certified ZigBee Smart Energy products version 1.0.

Smart Grid Conceptual Framework Diagram

It shows all the communications and energy/electricity flows connecting each domain and how they are interrelated. Each individual domain is itself comprised of important smart grid elements that are connected to each other through two-way communications and energy/electricity paths. These connections are the basis of the future, intelligent and dynamic power electricity grid. The NIST Smart Grid Conceptual Model helps stakeholders understand the building blocks of an end-to-end smart grid system, from Generation to (and from) Customers, and explores the interrelation between these smart grid segments.

http://collaborate.nist.gov/twiki-sggrid/bin/view/SmartGrid/PAP09DRDER Abstract: Develop or adopt standard DR and DER signals – NIST shall organize a meeting with IEC TC57, OASIS, NAESB, and AMI-ENT to specify a process for developing a common semantic model for standard DR signals. The effort shall ensure that DR & DER signal standards support load control, supply control, and environmental signals.
