Why? Naming is not easy. Coming up with a catchy name for a product, company or domain can be a real challenge. It is like looking for a needle in a haystack: the right name should sound good, must not be already used by someone else, should have the potential to become a brand, and preferably with as little Google search results as possible. How? Wordoid.com is a webapp that strives to help you invent a good name. http://wordoid.com/

Sean Puckett - Random Word Generator

The generation of "random" words has been a fascination of mine for a while. The term "random" isn't quite appropriate, though, as it doesn't just throw together some consonants and vowels into something that may be pronouncable. Instead, the generator needs to be seeded with a group of words (the more the better) from which it learns what kind of words you want to generate. The generator tears those words apart, learns how they're constructed, then randomly reassembles the components of those words into new ones, driven by the rules by which the original words were made. http://www.nexi.com/fun/rw/index.html

Chris Pound's Name Generation

Alan Sweeney ( Page 637@aol.com ) contributed all the datasets for Arabic, Celtic, Modern Greek, Spanish, and Thai names. Loren Miller ( loren@wharton.upenn.edu ) contributed the datasets for Cthulhoid, Carmanian, Assyrian, Japanese, and Viking names. Alex Fink ( fink@cadvision.com ) contributed the Latvian files. Hayden Sweeney ( bmalehtmai@aol.com ) contributed the dataset for Ancient Egyptian. Kaoru Moriyama ( caro@aaa-int.or.jp ) provided some excellent info on Japanese names, which I'm afraid I corrupted a bit given the way I incorporated it into the Japanese ruleset for werd.
