Easy Ombre Cookies. Cookie Decorating. Birdhouse Ornament Cookies. It's Cookie Exchange time!! Well, almost. Our festivities are scheduled for this Saturday, and I've gathered so many recipes in preparation over the past few weeks. I've had a really hard time narrowing down what I really and truly want to contribute.

I kept coming back to this recipe from Betty Crocker. I was completely sold on the edible ornament idea, and I think they turned out great! First of all, bake these on parchment. Wouldn't these be cute (sans bird perch and hole) decorated as Black-Forest inspired Cuckoo clocks? This gingerbread cookie has a strong spicy flavor, and the molasses gives it durability. Many, many more cookie recipes to come! Spring Butterfly Cookies. Spring is here! Well, supposedly spring has been here for a few weeks but the weather hasn’t exactly been reflected that change. This is normal for Indiana at this time of year, but it still doesn’t mean I’m happy about it.

Finally this week some of the trees are showing their first tiny leaves and blossoms. I love this time of year – not as much as I love fall, but almost. I have been itching to create some spring-inspired treats and these cookies have been on my mind for a long time. Really, ever since I bought this set of butterfly cookie cutters a couple of years ago. I’ve just been waiting for my royal icing skills to catch up to my imagination :) These cookies were really fun to make, though more time consuming than a lot of cookies with royal icing simply due to the number of different colors of icing I needed.

These would be a beautiful favor for a spring baby or bridal shower, or a little girl’s birthday party. Gettin' hitched! Michael and Rebecca, what can I say? I'm thrilled to pieces for these two. I've known them both for quite a while through the Pathology group we all work(ed) for. When Michael asked if I would bake cupcakes and cookies for a Fall themed Smoky Mountain wedding, well gosh. I couldn't wait to get started. I love Fall so much. We did three large platters of cupcakes, three smaller platters of cookies, and three baskets of favors.

Mmmm, the cupcake flavors: Pumpkin chocolate chip with maple buttercream icingDevil's food with chocolate buttercream icingRed velvet with vanilla buttercream icingDouble vanilla with vanilla buttercream icing Through this project I discovered my new favorite baking item. OH, yes and how could I forget?! *I am adding a disclaimer though. So, in closing I would just like to thank Michael and Rebecca for giving me the opportunity to bake for one of the most memorable days in their lives.

Wishing you only the best, P.S. Edible Photo Decal Cookies. I talked about these briefly over a year ago, but haven’t touched on them since. Have you seen them? Cookies decorated with edible photo (or art) decals? When Bridget came to the Lodge for the holiday baking weekend, she brought along adorable cookies decorated with some of my photos of Charlie, horses, cows, insects…and my husband’s bottom. Don’t believe me?

Here’s Bridget’s post. Bridget’s Photo Cookies In a second, I’ll give you specific information about how to print and apply these decals yourself. First, you print out multiple photos on special edible paper. I have a book of vintage holiday greeting card clip art, so I printed out a couple of different designs. To apply the decal, make a border of royal icing around the edge of the cookie. Rectangular cookies are great for photos, as you don’t have to worry about cropping or altering the photo’s shape; just match up the photo size to the size of the rectangle and you’re good to go! Next, fill in the rectangle with flood icing.

Lovely! Decorated Christmas Cookies. This weekend, four winners of the Holiday Baking Weekend Giveaway (and their guests) assembled at the Lodge for a weekend of rest, relaxation and…holiday baking! I decided to focus in on decorated sugar cookies, since learning those skills can open up a whole world of cookie fun around the holidays, but since I’m much better at haphazardly slopping savory ingredients into an iron skillet than I am at executing precise, meticulous cookie decorating techniques, I knew I’d want to bring in reinforcements. One day a month or so ago, I went to Twitter and asked for the names of favorite cookie decorating foodbloggers. There was a handful of bloggers whose names were mentioned over and over. I am Baker, for example. One of the most enthusiastically recommended cookie experts was the lovely Bridget at Bake at 350. But I did know I was willing to find out. I emailed Bridget the same day…and she graciously accepted the invitation.

I jumped for joy. My homegirl Bakerella would have fainted. 1. 2.
