First let me start by saying three things I always wanted are:A pool tableAn arcade machine (or several)A projector system for a Home TheaterI have the Home Theater setup- a 106" diagonal screen with the Panasonic ax200u projector, and I am working on my arcade. (Every 'Theater needs at least one arcade machine right? ) and when I finish that I'll be getting a pool table... so life is grand!

I'm pretty savvy with the internet, and I am a network engineer by profession, so I know my way around computers and electronics. I found that everytime I start a new hobby I always find sites like this after I get started. It's mainly because when you first start you don't know what to look for or sometimes sites are buried in search engines and you may not find them right away. For my first arcade cab I went with the Ultimate Arcade II. As much as many will cringe, I went with their kit. Okay enough of the introductions. The problem is it uses LPL press board. The Defender cabinet was a cool cabinet, take a look at the dimensions... Note: The old dimensions are OBSOLETE! I have reproduced the Defender Cabinet in Google SketchUp which is WAAAAY more accurate and easier to build from since it's a 3D model. If you have a Defender and would compare the dimensions of my Model with your actual Defender, that would be greatly appreciated. You can email me if you find something that doesn't match yours.Email You can download the Google Sketchup file here: Defender.zip Everything below here is Obsolete! Note: These dimensions might be slightly off (up to 1/8") since I measured it myself :-) This version is a lot closer than the old version.

The cabinet is made from 3/4" plywood. Defender Control Panel. The Cabinet is 26" wide. Retro-Arcade. Austin and I undertook a project to build a home arcade machine. We had several requirements: It must use real arcade controls (joysticks and buttons) It must play hundreds of exact classic arcade games (such as Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Defender, Galaga, Dig-Dug, etc.)

It must be half the size of real arcade machines It must be an upright (as opposed to a table top) design It must stand up to the serious abuse that only 13 year old boys (and men who often revert to boys in the presence of the Retro-Arcade) can deliver It must use a wood finish and be easily disassembled We arrived with a design that passes the spouse factor but is still a boy magnet.

Construction Photos I cut out the side panels with a jig-saw, sanded one side smooth, and then used the router with a flush trim bit to make the two sides identical. The wood parts for the control panels are drilled and routed. Here's the wiring on the control panel. The panel with the graphic installed and the Lexan covering in place.
