Citizen Maths: A Free Course to Build Adult Math Skills

Did math pass you by at school, or have your skills grown rusty over the years? What is Chaos Theory? : FractalFoundation.org. Chaos is the science of surprises, of the nonlinear and the unpredictable.

What is Chaos Theory? : FractalFoundation.org

It teaches us to expect the unexpected. While most traditional science deals with supposedly predictable phenomena like gravity, electricity, or chemical reactions, Chaos Theory deals with nonlinear things that are effectively impossible to predict or control, like turbulence, weather, the stock market, our brain states, and so on. These phenomena are often described by fractal mathematics, which captures the infinite complexity of nature.

Many natural objects exhibit fractal properties, including landscapes, clouds, trees, organs, rivers etc, and many of the systems in which we live exhibit complex, chaotic behavior. Recognizing the chaotic, fractal nature of our world can give us new insight, power, and wisdom. Photographer Creates Stunning Symmetric Images with Light and Reflection

Symmetry makes it attractive. This is what we've been told. When applied to photography, the binomial equilibrium and proportion can create striking images. The shots of Brussels-based photographer Ferdinand Choffray will show you the timeless power of symmetrical composition. But how did he get started?

Armed with a keen eye and irrepressible curiosity, this photographer turned 'urban explorer' is an expert in capturing pictures from rooftops, construction sites, lost places and abandoned buildings. "I like the way photography forces me to go out, it constantly makes me explore new places and be in contact with new people. Natural light is an important tool available to photographers, and fortunately it is free. "I photograph the same places multiple times.

Statistics: Methods and Applications textbook offers training in the understanding and application of statistics and data mining. It covers a wide variety of applications, including laboratory research (biomedical, agricultural, etc.), business statistics, credit scoring, forecasting, social science statistics and survey research, data mining, engineering and quality control applications, and many others. The Textbook begins with an overview of the relevant elementary (pivotal) concepts and continues with a more in depth exploration of specific areas of statistics, organized by "modules", representing classes of analytic techniques.

A glossary of statistical terms and a list of references for further study are included. You have filtered out all documents. Fun with the Impossible Penrose Triangle. I found this delightful animation today: The ball is traveling around a shape that can’t exist in our real world: the Penrose triangle.

Fun with the Impossible Penrose Triangle

This illusion is the basis for some cool art, like Escher’s Waterfall. And I’m using it in my Math You Can Play books as a design on the back of my playing cards: Want to Play Around with the Penrose Triangle? Here’s a few links so you can try it for yourself: Penrose Lego by Erik Johansson (CC BY 2.0) Book Update I’ve sent the first two Math You Can Play books to a copy editor (she edits the text part), so my focus this month is on finishing the illustrations and downloadable game boards. 9 Strategies for Motivating Students in Mathematics. Motivating students to be (enthusiastically) receptive is one of the most important aspects of mathematics instruction and a critical aspect of the Common Core State Standards.

9 Strategies for Motivating Students in Mathematics

Effective teachers should focus attention on the less interested students as well as the motivated ones. Presented in this blog post are nine techniques, based on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, which can be used to motivate secondary school students in mathematics. Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation Extrinsic motivation involves rewards that occur outside the learner's control.
