A l’initiative du réseau de chercheurs ParisNetworking et du CSTI , Lawrence H. Landweber, “ senior advisor ” (conseiller en chef) de la National Science Foundation (NSF) américaine, présentait ce vendredi 10 mars GENI (Global Environment for Networking Innovations) , la plate-forme de recherche et d’expérimentation sur les réseaux du futur autour de laquelle les États-Unis et plusieurs autres pays s’apprêtent à investir plusieurs centaines de millions de dollars. Assistance clairsemée, dominée par les étudiants, et pratiquement aucune entreprise (en dehors de France Télécom, venu en nombre) lors de cette présentation exceptionnelle, par l’un de ses principaux concepteurs, de la plate-forme GENI.

Printer-friendly version ANN ARBOR, Mich., and CAMBRIDGE, Mass., November 30, 2010 — Internet2, the foremost U.S. advanced networking consortium, and the GENI Project Office announced today that Internet2 will donate bandwidth on its national backbone to support GENI subcontractors and the GENI Project Office. The GENI Project Office is located at Raytheon BBN Technologies in Cambridge, MA . Internet2’s connections will support the emerging GENI meso-scale prototype, which now spans over a dozen U.S campuses, with direct connections at ten backbone locations.

FIND (Future Internet Design) is a major new long-term initiative of the NSF NeTS research program. FIND invites the research community to consider what the requirements should be for a global network of 15 years from now, and how we could build such a network if we are not constrained by the current Internet -- if we could design it from scratch. FIND solicits research across the broad area of network architecture, principles, and mechanism design, aimed at answering these questions. The philosophy of the program is to help conceive the future by momentarily letting go of the present - freeing our collective minds from the constraints of the current state of networking.

The Global Environment for Network Innovations ( GENI ) is a facility concept being explored [ when? ] by the United States computing community with support from the National Science Foundation . The goal of GENI is to enhance experimental research in computer networking and distributed systems , and to accelerate the transition of this research into products and services that will improve the economic competitiveness of the United States. [ citation needed ] GENI planning efforts are organized around several focus areas, including facility architecture, the backbone network, distributed services, wireless/mobile/sensor subnetworks, and research coordination amongst these.
