All of these are a short walk from one another as well as the Volunteer House. We also have placements in the Valley at a “Baby Orphanage” which has infants through toddlers and an NGO which houses trafficked women’s children. These are both near the Volunteer House, one a short walk and the other a short bus ride. Outside the valley we have placements at orphanages in Pokhara, the “Switzerland of Nepal,” Lumbini, the “Birthplace of Buddha” in Charikot nestled among 4000 meter peaks, and in the Terai “jungle” region along the Indian border. The placements outside the valley offer accommodations onsite. We teach in the schools where the children from the orphanage go in order for them to be accepted even though they are not Thai citizens. Teaching is in the mornings Monday-Friday, and volunteers will mostly be working at Primary Schools and in the local High school. Additionally, volunteers can sometimes work at the orphanage in the afternoons, which provides vital support and education to children, the most vulnerable victims of the social fall-out in neighbouring Burma.
At the moment, the orphanage is temporarily closed. Our hope is that it will be reopened within a few months. The orphanage was founded in December of 2002 by five representatives from the Shan community who were involved in development and social work. Program Cost. The least populated area in Israel, it is home to a wide variety of people such as the nomadic desert people known as the Bedouin as well as unique African wildlife. The Wildlife Reserve is located in the dramatically scenic Arava Valley, which is part of the Negev. About the Project As part of the Israel Nature and Parks Authority (NPA), the Wildlife Reserve is actively involved in establishing reproduction groups for populations of endangered desert animals, preserving the native wildlife, and educating the public about the desert and its inhabitants. The reserve encompasses a variety of arid-land habitats including acacia groves, salt-flats, and sand. GoEco volunteers will join the Wildlife Reserve staff with its on-going conservation and animal care work.
