Good Morning Students! (my first video) - Teaching in Room 6. Years ago, while I was taking a professional development class, the teacher always began with the most positive an uplifting mantra. She managed to perk up 100 teachers, who were tired from an entire day of teaching, in five seconds. It was really amazing -- the positivity and energy that little greeting brought into the room. So I decided to use it myself. It really is very simple. At the beginning of the year, we brainstorm adjectives as a class. Then, throughout the year, I choose adjectives from the circle map to use in the blank spaces. Each day that first week of school, I model for them the call and response. I honestly can say it is such a pick me up each morning. Good Morning Students! (my first video) - Teaching in Room 6. Luckeyfrog's Lilypad: classroom management strategy. School started this week, and I am worn. out. Everyone is asking me how I like 3rd grade, and so far I'm having a hard time telling what is different because of a new grade level, and what is different because of the personalities I happen to have in this class.

Either way... I'm excited to get in the groove of learning, and not just the first week of school. I am even more excited that it's the weekend :) Classroom Management and Discipline Tips for New Teachers part of my series, I Just Got a Teaching Job... One of the toughest things for a new teacher is usually discipline. But they need to know that you will follow through, too. When I think of discipline, I like to have: Class rewardsIndividual rewardsIndividual consequencesAnd as needed:Team rewardsTeam consequences Class consequences (as a last resort- I don't like to do these very often because you end up punishing some kids who don't deserve it.)

That last one is SO much cuter than my marble jar!! Intrinsic rewards are the best.

Kristine Nannini. Using Gallery Walks in the Classroom - Shelley Gray. Gallery walks are a great way to get students out of their seats and moving around the classroom. Some teachers shudder at the thought of having all of the students out of their desks moving around the classroom at the same time, but in reality, it can be a very effective technique for classroom management. Your students need a certain amount of time out of their seats, and this will give them that opportunity. The most important thing to remember is to establish expectations before beginning the activity. Keep reading for some information on gallery walks, as well as some ideas for incorporating them into your classroom. What is a gallery walk? A gallery walk is a classroom activity in which students rotate through a variety of tasks.

How can I use gallery walks? Gallery walks can be used in any subject area and for any topic, simply by setting up your activity a bit differently. Another way that I love to use gallery walks is in the computer lab. What sort of expectations should I set? 4 CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TIPS FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR - Shelley Gray. The first week of school is your opportunity to set the stage for how your classroom will operate all year long!

Excellent classroom management can literally transform the way your classroom operates and the way that your students respond to your teaching. Even before the school year begins, it is important to think about how you are going to implement some basic classroom management routines. This will help students understand what to expect, and feel safe and comfortable in your classroom. Below I’ve included four of my favorite ways to incorporate classroom management into your first week of school. 1. This is SO important. 2. Believe it or not, allowing your students to get up and move around the room can actually HELP your classroom management by keeping everyone engaged and by appealing to your kinesthetic learners. 3. Procedures and routines need to be modelled and practiced. 4.

Have a wonderful school year, Shelley.
