How to Draw a Tangle Doodle Part 1. PARADOX, and then some. A Tutorial. Here are Zentangle's instructions for the tangle Paradox, from the February 2008 newsletter.

PARADOX, and then some. A Tutorial

Paradox is one of my favorite tangles and I seem to do it rather well. Perhaps those two things are related! :-) I've been asked about it occasionally, how did I do this or that. I thought about doing a video but that's just a bit more than I can take on right now. So I decided to post some tips and ideas here, and hope to make them clear enough. The elegant curves show best if the lines are close together. Agh! Then again, never say never. Paradox works best in triangles or squares. There are two looks that can be achieved with Paradox. Paradox is essentially a square or triangular spiral. TWISTS: Regardless of whether you spiral clockwise or counter-clockwise, if you spiral in the same direction in every section you'll end up with twists. FANS: To get the fans you need to spiral in the opposite direction from section to section.

Paradox also makes a nice border design. Never say never, right? : For my fellow tangle junkies: some thoughts on collecting and organizing tangle patterns. I'm a perfectionist.

I didn't always know this about myself, or maybe I wasn't always one and I'm just settling into my own shoes a little as I get older. But "ehh.... good enough" is probably not something you'll hear me say. Because if I'm working on something I care about, and I know it's not the best I am capable of, I have to force myself to not redo every little thing and make it as good as I know it could be (and yes, I do realize that this occasionally makes me a little bit annoying).

For example, I've attempted a few methods for collecting and organizing tangle patterns... index cards, flip cards, graph paper pads, Moleskine notebooks, different-sized journals, a small binder with page protectors, et cetera. First I had to let go of the idea that any journal I created would/could ever resemble Maria's... that just wasn't realistic for me. Zentangle. Zentangle Untangled. I met Kass Hall last year as fellow exhibitors at the monster Papercraft Show in Brisbane.

I fell in love with her ( although she will kill me for saying this) and her Mum. They are funny, bonza people. Kass is a mixed -media artist and certified Zentangle instructor. She features in my Supplies Me Workshop, giving her fave pen recommendation! Way back then, she was working on her book, and I have been waiting for Kass’s book to arrive with great anticipation. Reading Zentangle Untangled is just like having Kass chat to me. TanglePatterns.com. TangleTangleTangle's blog. TanglePatterns.com.

Zentangle.

Hur börjar man då? Munchin - alternate steps. Munchin, and then some.

Munchin - alternate steps

Munchin is one of Zentangle's official tangles, designed by Molly Hollibaugh, Maria's daughter. Munchin is based on triangles and has a nice, slightly mottled look when finished. You can see Molly's instructions, which begins with some random dots, in the Zentangle newsletter here. I had forgotten that method until I taught Munchin to a class that included two CZTs, who reminded me about it! Because any tangle is usually drawn in an odd-shaped space provided by the string, I had come up with another way to draw Munchin, which I have been teaching. Ultimately, in order to draw Munchin, you need your space sub-divided into triangles. Here are some odd shapes you might have, courtesy of your string: three, four, and five sides.

If the shape is triangular you're good to go. Here's one possible configuration of triangles for each of these shapes: And here are those same shapes complete with Munchin. But what if some of the lines are curved? Outlines to Copy. Outlines to Copy I am posting outlines that you can add doodle patterns too, and you are free to use however you wish.

Outlines to Copy

I will post a new one or maybe two each week for you to use. I have added a Mr Linky so that those who want to, can post their results. I would love to see them as I am sure others would also. Suggested Variations to these designs.
