I really haven't seen anything like this out there so I was interested in coming up with something that would be fairly waterproof, not too bulky, 100% wool with a flannel soaker, and an elastic waist band so that they stay up by themselves (as opposed to wool soakers which need a snappi or fitted underneath to stay up). I put the snaps in the front as opposed to the back (as in regular diapers) since the location of the soaker in the front is the important part when you EC. You don't have to worry to much where the soaker is in the back although I did mark snap locations for back snaps on the pattern if you want to use them.

Maybe this would be necessary for a toddler who is pulling their own pants up? (SEE UPDATE) These fit my 9 month old who is 20lbs, however, they are fairly large. Katoenen luiers Zelf Maken. Instructions for sewing the soaker. Place all of the soaker pieces on the fold of the fabric, making sure the stretch of the fabric is going from left to right (hip to hip). You also want the leg cuffs and waistband to have the stretch going from left to right (along the longest side). For fleece, the stretch should go in the opposite direction of the bold lines on the pattern. If you are using knit wool, the knit (Vs in the knit) should go in the direction of the bold lines. On the new pattern for fleece soakers, the arrowed lines should go in the direction of the stretch of the fleece. Here's a good video tutorial by Sew Cheeky that also includes adding the skirtie.

Cut out all four soaker pieces. I LOVE the New Flip Cloth Diapers! All About Cloth Diapers. This is not a paid endorsement.

I’ve been wanting to make myself some soaker pads for the boys’ diapers for a while and I finally got around to doing it.

Cloth Diaper Soaker Pads - A Tutorial

The first one I made turned out pretty good so I thought I’d make up a tutorial in case anyone else liked the idea too! The cloth diapers I use are also handmade and my mother in law and I made them with the soaker pads built in, but I thought it would be nice to have some extra pads to add to them when I’m afraid they might leak. Soaker pads also make it easier to clean when there’s more than just pee in the diaper! Sewing a Fitted Nappy - Sewing a Fitted Nappy. What I used to make this nappy: Absorbing fabric should be as close to 100% cotton as possible.

Optional Steps 1 and 2 if you want to add a sewn in soaker pad (slows drying time) Sew as many layers as you want together. I have an overlocker, so I overlocked the edges (I imagine straight machine sewing would be fine) Pin the soaker pad to the wrong side of the nappy body piece that will go against bub's skin. (or, if you are sewing 3 layers of nappy body together, sew it on the middle layer so that your stitching is hidden) Machine sew on.
