How to make a toddler playsuit/romper from an adult t-shirt (part 1) Today I'm going to show you how to make THIS: I took OODLES of pictures, so every step should be really clear, but email me if it's not!
A shirt (I used adult small. It needs to be as long as your child from shoulder to ankle.... (or to knee if you want shorts) too big and you will have to hem/fix the collar, and the whole point of this is to use what's already done....) some coordinating scrap t-shirt fabric (for the crotch facings) sewing machines, clothespins, thread, etc. Measure your baby from shoulder to mid-crotch (where a onesie would snap). add an inch to get your "body measurement" My daughter is about 17" from shoulder to crotch... turn your adult t-shirt inside out, and then fold it in 1/2. My daughter was 17" so I marked (with a sharpie, since this will all be covered) at 18" down from the top of the neck at the hem, measure in about 1.5 inches, and draw a line up, curving the corner to get to your measured body length. cut it out.
Discard the U's you just cut out. cut 2. CHICKPEA SEWING STUDIO: Etsy find: Monkey pants. I have been scouting Etsy for cute pdf patterns lately, it's a real gold mine.
Last month's find was for a pair of baby pants. The shop is called Dans la lune, she sells various children's pattern and a little bit of fabric. I went for the monkey pants in the 18-24 month size. They are too big for Finn right now. I might have to scale it down because they are just too cute to wait for the boy to grow that much! Good knits can be hard to come by, and I have been considering buying oversized garments on sale at Target to cut into. Sewn Baby Gift Ideas and Tutorials « THE DOMESTIC DIVA’S DISASTERS™ My blog friend, Tracey, asked if I had any ideas on what to sew for a new baby.
Although I have lots of ideas for great gifts, I have to keep it simple as there are not enough hours in the day to keep up with all the new babies being born around me…LOL! When I have to make quick baby gifts, I tend to do a lot of embroidery and embellishing. I’ll do lots of onesies, burp cloths, bibs, diaper covers and blankets.
