Gamehub. Scrum. Web. Stubru. 5th European Conference on Games Based Learning. Conference Status The 5th European Conference on Games-Based Learning (ECGBL 2011), organized by the National and Kapodestrian University of Athens, Greece went ahead on October 20-21 at the Hellenic American Union (HAU) premises, with over 70 of the registered participants making it to the venue, despite the last minute announcement of air traffir controllers’ strike for Athens flights. The conference offered a great opportunity for scholars and practitioners to share their thoughts and research findings. With the central theme of the conference being game-based learning, a variety of major topics were covered including lateral themes such as playful literacy and playful collaboration, games for informal learning, games for vocational learning, board games, digital storytelling.

Feedback from the participants has been positive. The ECGBL 2012 call for papers closes on 16 March 2012. Background Objectives The game The methodology Background Research into the processes and pedagogies underlying learning and training is constantly addressing new challenges. Over the last 20 years, the European society has invested much into developing an ICT infrastructure and promoting its use. Approaches to building 21st century skills. Objectives By combining two methodological approaches, the e-VITA project promotes and investigates pedagogy driven innovation, defining new approaches to problem-based and contextualised learning as well as knowledge-transfer through the integration of Game Based Learning (GBL) with intergenerational learning concepts. The project focuses on GBL in order to provide games that are deeply motivating, engaging and foster learning and training 21st century skills like adaptability, self-direction, risk taking, interactive communication, and prioritisation, that are difficult to teach with normal approaches.
