Cowboys and Aliens: Nouvelle Bande Annonce. Cowboys & Aliens Movie Directed by Jon Favreau - In Theaters July 29, 2011 - Official Movie Site - Trailers, Pictures, Games & More. Cowboys & Aliens (2011. Do genre mash-up films really work? The teaser trailer for Transformers: Dark Of The Moon showed that the Apollo 11 landing did not just provide one of mankind's historical moments, but also the discovery of Transformers on the moon. This melding of true life events and sci-fi is a simple example of how the hybrid genre movie is rapidly becoming more popular in Hollywood. There is even another Apollo-based film coming out that portrays 'fictional' historical events with a horror twist. Apollo 18 will tell the tale of the 'lost Apollo mission' that, no doubt, saw its astronauts come to an icky end at the hands of some alien/monster/red neck conspiracy theorist.
Now, I love genre movies. My DVD collection is made up of many a historical epic, war movie and sci-fi extravaganza, but recently filmmakers have decided to combine these genres to create a film that can be both great fun and ridiculous in equal measure. However, more often than not, they completely divide audiences. That is not to say all hybrid genre films work. James Bond And Cowboys And Aliens. Monday we learned that Robert Downey Jr. was dropping out of Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 followup, a movie called Cowboys and Aliens. That leaves Favreau in search of a new star and Collider thinks they’ll know who he’ll hire to herd E.T. They claim it could be Daniel Craig. Their source says he’s in negotiations for RDJ’s old role, the part of Zeke Johnson. Can Daniel Craig do a cowpoke accent? Or will this be Zeke Johnson by way of James Bond? The film is supposed to be based on a comic (pictured below) about a group of Apache Indians and Arizona settlers forced to band together when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city, but adding James Bond into the mix can only make this idea even better.

The American teaser poster for Cowboys & Aliens was nicely subtle and left a lot to the imagination, but that was nothing compared to the brooding international version that showed up today at Empire Online.
Star Daniel Craig may as well be Batman for all the blue-black shadow he's bathed in, and the darkness puts extra emphasis on that strange alien wrist thing he's got strapped to him-- what the hell is that, and how'd it wind up attached to this cowboy? Even though it's not technically an original story, based on Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's graphic novel, Cowboys & Aliens looks like one of the most inventive and freshest blockbusters on deck for the next year, and everything about the marketing campaign thus far is only confirming the suspicion.
Yes, it's foolish to get too worked up over two well-made teaser posters and a thrilling trailer, but good marketing is often a sign of something worthwhile coming down the pike. This past May people had varying opinions about Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2, but one thing almost universally agreed upon was that Sam Rockwell is about twenty different kinds of awesome.
Playing Tony Stark-nemesis Justin Hammer, Rockwell struck a perfect balance between comic relief and villain, and, as always, was simply great to watch on screen. Thankfully, both he and Favreau must have hit it off, because next summer we’ll be able to see the two work together in Cowboys & Aliens. This past summer a group of other journalists including myself were invited down to Plaza Blanca, New Mexico to visit the set of the upcoming blockbuster and in addition to watching them film, we were granted the awesome opportunity to talk with a few of the film’s cast members, including Rockwell, who plays Doc, as well as his on screen wife Ana de la Reguera, who plays Maria. What’s sort of the background of Doc and Maria? Ana de la Reguera: Yeah. Like I was a nurse, yeah.
SR: Something like that. SR: Yeah. Wonder Con Interview: Cowboys & Aliens Director Jon Favreau. Thanks to the vagaries of the music industry and the need to have some semblance of skill, not everyone in this world can become a famous musician. But while director Jon Favreau may never go on to the stage at Madison Square Garden and rock out a sick guitar solo, if he ever feels the need to feel like a rock star, he need go no further than a comic book convention. This past weekend actor/director took the stage at WonderCon in San Francisco to promote his newest film, Cowboys & Aliens and verified what we all already know: the man is a Geek God. Following a panel with writer/producer Roberto Orci, answering fan questions and showing the crowd nine minutes of footage from the new movie – due out on July 29 – Favreau came back stage to participate in roundtable interviews with eager members of the press, including myself.
When was your first convention experience? The first time I was [at ComicCon] was for Zathura. Oh, it is accurate. Well, some of it was gone. I think it's just that. Cowboys & Aliens Set Visit Interview: Director Jon Favreau. Jon Favreau has always been a solid director, though it wasn’t until recently that he has begun really getting credit for it.
Since 1991, he has made films such as Made, Elf and Zathura, but it wasn’t until he helmed the incredibly successful Iron Man in 2008 that he established himself as blockbuster director. Now, for the first time, he’s taking that newfound success out of the Marvel universe and bringing it to the old west. This past August I had the incredible fortune to travel to Santa Fe, New Mexico to visit the set of the upcoming sci-fi/western mash-up Cowboys & Aliens, starring Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Sam Rockwell, Olivia Wilde and Paul Dano. Is the look of the alien ships kind of a call back like the ancient astronauts, you know, like the cave drawings? Yeah, we tried to look at – you know, there was that first photograph of a spaceship was from I think the 1870’s, not far from here – early Sam Rockwell, right [laughs]. Yeah. Yeah. Are the aliens fairly biological?
