School ICT eLearning - Smart Classrooms
Overview The School ICT eLearning Index (PDF, 197k) ( http://education.qld.gov.au/smartclassrooms/documents/working-digitally/pdf/ict-elearning.pdf ) supports schools with planning, evaluating and reporting of ICT eLearning activities in their strategic planning, especially the School ICT eLearning Plan ( http://education.qld.gov.au/smartclassrooms/working-digitally/planning-cycle/school-ict-plans.html ) . The index uses three levels to measure the maturity that schools have developed across the four ICT eLearning Drivers ( http://education.qld.gov.au/smartclassrooms/strategy/ict-elearning-drivers.html ) to ensure that ICT and eLearning is integral to learning in every school.
Why ICT should still be taught in schools and a way to do it properly : Just an IT Teacher
Lots of comments have been made recently suggesting there is little future for ICT and little worth in it. Here’s a few headline grabbers you may have seen: Since Xmas I have embarked on a completely new approach to teaching three Year 10 classes the dreaded and much maligned OCR Nationals ICT course. Yet, it could be said that for the most part I have embarked on not teaching them ICT at all, teaching them apsects of Life Skills, Personal Development, Business Studies, Design etc etc, and then bringing IT into their work at a later date. This has borrowed heavily from lots of research and reading mainly on Passion-Based Learning, the Design Thinking/Problem Finders approach, various inspirational school models and was undoubtedly influenced by Sir Ken Robinson (see end of post for many of these references). Here is a step-by-step outline of the approach to teaching of this.

So you've been computing for quite a few years now, and you've built a nice collection of hard drives, internal or external, collecting dust in the corner. Here's how to put them to good use. If you don't have a ton of external drives lying around, you might still have a bunch of old internal drives, and the best thing you can do is put them in a USB enclosure so they see some use . Furthermore, this trick also works for upgrading existing external drives: if it dies or becomes too small to be useful, you can always swap the current drive out of the enclosure for a better one you have collecting dust. If you haven't set it up already, one of the most popular (and most important) uses for an external drive is an automatic backup. Whether you're using Mozy , SyncBack on Windows, or Time Machine on OS X, an automatic, local backup is a must to make sure you don't lose any of your important data to the ever-looming possibility of drive failure.
