About a month ago we received a package in the mail. Well, it was addressed to my husband and that part is important. Important because, even though we’re married, I don’t open anyone else’s mail.
[The following is a republication (and re-edit!) of a review PJ wrote for his own (now-defunct) personal blog some time ago. There is enough search traffic for this article that we felt it deserved to be archived here. We hope you find PJ’s review informative.] Drs. Every now and again, what with me being what I am (a human), I find myself hurled into the teeth of some sort of twitterstorm. Either I get a bit cross with someone ( or “throw my toys out of the pram” and “have a hissy fit” as some would prefer to put it) or I tweet an opinion or experience that for some reason turns into a “story” with all the distortions, Chinese whispers, misunderstandings and embarrassments that “stories” generate. I have a modest proposal that might simultaneously celebrate the life of Christopher Hitchens, strengthen Britain’s low stock in Europe and allow us to help a dear friend in terrible trouble.
I'll be real with you guys. All 5 of you who read this. For the first time ever, I'm at the very top of my "healthy weight range" for my height/age. I've always tended to be around the middle of it-never really skinny, but never huge. And now, even the thought of stepping on a scale again anytime soon makes me want to cry. I've been working out, trying to eat healthier, trying not to snack on crap I don't need.
Since I have spent most of my life cheering for the underdog, it is not often that my team wins. It is even more rare that my team consistently wins. But seeing my team win a big game is most rare of all. (Even when I had an interlude in my underdog appreciation and rooted vociferously for the University of Oklahoma football team, we still didn’t win the big games.) It’s such a rare phenomenon for me that when Kevin Durant hit the game-winner tonight, I danced around my living room a bit, dashed off an all-caps Facebook status, and didn’t know what to do next.
For most of this month, stepping outside felt like walking into a full-blast microwave oven. The place to be in August? Not Kansas.
