studio aisslinger

At the exhibition „Poetry Happens“ in Ventura Lambrate, Werner Aisslinger presented the world’s first concept for a monobloc chair made of natural fibers – a project supported by the German chemical company BASF. The *hemp chair* has been designed for a lightweight manufacturing process stemming from the car industry: the renewable raw materials hemp and kenaf are compressed with a water-based thermoset binder to form an eco-friendly, lightweight and yet strong composite. Description: Today’s consumers are striving towards a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle that is in harmony with the environment. They want innovative products such as electric scooters and hybrid cars as well as new, environmentally compatible, light and durable materials. According to Werner Aisslinger, the development of the *hemp chair* marks a turning point in this trend. http://www.aisslinger.de/index.php?option=com_project&view=detail&pid=121&Itemid=1

Superb Idea: The Bee Station - Food - GOOD

http://www.good.is/post/superb-idea-the-bee-station/ Last summer, 31-year-old Jamie Hutchison was listening to the radio when an expert from the RSPB (a leading wildlife conservation nonprofit in the United Kingdom) was on the air, responding to several callers' concerns about slow, seemingly sick or tired bees crawling on their lawns. The expert explained that, due to the decline in the UK’s bee population, the bees that remain are overworked: Many people keep seeing bees lying on the ground and assume they are dead but chances are they are having a rest. Much like us, a sugary drink could boost their energy levels and a simple sugar and water combination will be a welcome treat. Hutchison heard this, and worried. "An egg cup full of sugar water is OK," he thought, "but we get a lot of spring and summer showers in the UK (there's more rain than sunshine in our glorious British Summers) and the sugar water will be replaced with regular rain water within a day or two."
If you love to golf, but feel guilty every time your ball plops into the lake as another piece of litter, never fear — your environmental concerns may soon come to an end. An undergraduate student and an engineering professor at the University of Maine have developed a biodegradable golf ball that completely dissolves in water in one week. Using cooked lobster shells, a natural binding agent, and a mold they bought on eBay, the team has created an eco-friendly golf ball that hits and flies like the real thing, and costs 80 percent less than other biodegradable balls currently on the market.

WWF SUSTAINABLE RATTAN PROGRAM | Wait! Green

NoMix Toilets Save Water in Europe - Design Green | Blog on Interior Design

Between efficient lighting, smart cars, and green energy, there’s an incremental improvement in our own homes that may have gone overlooked. NoMix toilets quite simply, separate #1 and #2, siphoning urine into a separate holding tank. The benefits may be bigger than just saving water, as some experts say that municipal wastewater plants would have a significantly easier task of processing waste separately, producing more methane that could be turned into electricty, and could more easily extract nutrients like phosphorous and nitrogen for fertilizers. So far, 7 European countries have signed on for the pilot program, and recently reported , "NoMix-technology is well accepted; around 80% of users liked the idea, 75−85% were satisfied with design, hygiene, smell, and seating comfort of NoMix-toilets, 85% regarded urine-fertilizers as good idea (50% of farmers), and 70% would purchase such food." Perhaps some day we’ll see these in the US??

http://www.interiordesign.net/blog/Design_Green/34668-Seed_Bomb_Vending_Machines_by_Commonstudio.php Kim Karlsrud and Danny Phillips of LA-based Commonstudio have transofmed the ubiquitous candy dispenser into a greener vending machine, supplying passersby with self-contained "seed bombs" full of plants-to-be. Full disclosure: I’m a little biased here, as Kim and Danny are also the project team leaders for Project H Design ’s Los Angeles-based crew. Regardless, the vending machines, dubbed GreenAid , are a genius tweak on a vernacular object, put to use for a social and environmental purpose. The little balls are made from clay, compost, and seeds, and have the potential to transform urban spaces into beautiful green spots.

KNIT STOOLS : Claire

Inspired by elements of the knitted stitch itself such as rings and loops, the structures are revealed and celebrated through exaggerated scale in bold and textured forms. Lambswool and Sheeps wool, in a mix of hand and machine knit stitches, are constructed into playful statement pieces.
