Current projects Towards biological drugs for degenerative eye diseases: Delivery of heat shock protein variants to retinal pigment epithelial cells lysosomes (sep. 2013 - aug. 2016) The purpose is to create several human Hsp70 formulations with several beneficial properties: the ability to enter RPE cells in a targeted way, the ability to target and act in the lysosomes.

The project is in tight collaboration with IV4SP, since several elements are overlapping, and results will be utilized in the 4th year of IV4SP. Expected outcomes: - A lead biopharmaceutical molecule Hsp70 with improved targeting to the posterior segment of the eye. - Understanding of mechanisms of the uptake of proteins via endocytic pathways in the retina of the eye. This project aims to optimize Hsp70 at cellular level. Bio-active protein synthesis in vitro with cell free platform (IV4SP; sept. 2013 - aug. 2017) Drug delivery to the posterior eye segment with hybrid materials - Academy of Finland (2011 - 2013) Oulu.
