G8 Dementia Summit | OECD work on dementia | Publications | Contacts Dementia is a devastating condition for the people affected, their family and friends, and for health systems.

OECD has been working to address this challenge. We work on how health systems need to be adapted to address the dementia challenge; we look at ways to harness information technologies and big data to improve the prevention and treatment of the disease; and we examine the innovation model to mobilise the research and technology needed to address dementia.

Through its global reach and ability to bring together government and non-government perspectives, OECD is in a unique position to face up to the challenge. These Guys Are Teaching Computers How to Think Like People

For the web’s biggest companies — including not only Twitter and Facebook but Amazon and Google — this ever-expanding online discourse is a treasure trove, a collection of personal information that can help them better understand who you are and, ultimately, get you in front of stuff you want to buy. But this is easier said than done.

Their ability to mine all that data hinges on how well their computer algorithms can understand what you’re saying. And let’s face it, machines aren’t too good at that. But a new algorithm developed at Stanford University could help change this reality, giving computers the power to more reliably interpret language. The aim, Socher says, is to develop algorithms that can operate without continued help from humans. Richard Socher. Mental health issues: staff engagement survey reveals lack of transparency. Companies are not being transparent about the mental health support they provide to their employees, as large numbers suffer from stress and other illness.

Mental health issues: staff engagement survey reveals lack of transparency

Photograph: David Levene Evidence for strong employee engagement levels has never been clearer, with recent research conducted by Business in the Community (BITC) and Ipsos Mori indicating a critical link between strong human capital management and organisational performance. FTSE 100 companies that have robust arrangements for reporting on employee wellness and engagement have been found to outperform the rest by 10%. We also know that investors are demanding a clearer and more consistent way to understand how organisations are managing their most important asset – people. But there is a lack of transparency in public reporting about employee engagement and wellbeing. Lack of transparency on mental health But when we take a closer look at the evidence, it seems that this issue may not be as neglected as it first appears. New Techniques from Google and Ray Kurzweil Are Taking Artificial Intelligence to Another Level.

When Ray Kurzweil met with Google CEO Larry Page last July, he wasn’t looking for a job.

New Techniques from Google and Ray Kurzweil Are Taking Artificial Intelligence to Another Level

A respected inventor who’s become a machine-intelligence futurist, Kurzweil wanted to discuss his upcoming book How to Create a Mind. He told Page, who had read an early draft, that he wanted to start a company to develop his ideas about how to build a truly intelligent computer: one that could understand language and then make inferences and decisions on its own.

It quickly became obvious that such an effort would require nothing less than Google-scale data and computing power. “I could try to give you some access to it,” Page told Kurzweil. “But it’s going to be very difficult to do that for an independent company.” Kurzweil was attracted not just by Google’s computing resources but also by the startling progress the company has made in a branch of AI called deep learning.

9 Innovation Concepts & Methodologies to Embrace, Consider or Rethink. For decades, the key challenges on innovation management in large companies have evolved around four elements; strategy, structure/approach, culture and people.

9 Innovation Concepts & Methodologies to Embrace, Consider or Rethink

This has been a constant, but the innovation concepts and methodologies keep changing and they continue to impact how we deal with the key challenges. Here I give you my views on the concepts that I think corporate innovation teams need to embrace or consider (they are fairly new) and those that you need to rethink (they have been around for a while and some adjustments are needed).
