TCP Inc. – Knock In, Knock Out & Conditional Knockout Mice. Mouse Reproduction - Transgenic Mice Breeding & Generation. Our breeding facilities are located in Canada’s largest mouse facility. The building is approximately 11,000 gross square metres of space on four occupied and two service floors. It houses specialized laboratories for mouse generation and analyses with holding space and services for up to 36,000 cages (180,000 mice) on individually vented micro isolator cage racks.
The facility’s Exclusion Barrier holding rooms are specifically designed, built, and equipped to provide an optimal and high-security disease-free environment for essential breeding colonies of mice that are accessed and maintained exclusively by Facility Operations staff. Modified Barrier rooms hold animals that have been bred or derived within the Exclusion Barrier and are being actively utilized in research projects. They will also hold mice derived in other locations that have been tested and confirmed pathogen-free.
Facility Operations also includes essential support areas such as cage wash and sterilization. TCP Inc. – Knock In, Knock Out & Conditional Knockout Mice. Mouse Reproduction — Transgenic Mice: An Overview. Mice Reproduction: About Genetically Engineered Mouse Models. A genetically modified mouse is a model that has its genome altered by making use of various genetic engineering techniques. Commonly used as animal models or for research of human diseases, genetically engineered mouse models are developed with more precision model human phenotypes and pathologies. This gives researchers chance to explore mechanisms and greater confidence in the translational potential of their findings.
Also, many models of neurodegenerative, oncology, cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders are available. Genetically Engineered Mouse Models are transgenic animals that have made possible to faithfully mimic the genetic and biological evolution of human cancers. These models offer many advantages over xenograft models and are engineered to have a short latency yet with high penetrance. Conditional Knockout Mouse Models – Medium. Conditional gene knockout is a process or a technique of gene targeting used to eradicate a specific gene in a certain tissue. This process is extremely helpful in studying the importance of particular genes in living organisms. This method is different from traditional gene knockout as it aims at targeting the specific genes at specific times, rather than deleting them from the beginning of life.
However, using conditional gene knockout technique is highly helpful as it eradicates side effects from traditional gene knockout technique. Embryonic death from a gene mutation can happen in traditional gene knockout and it can stop scientists from studying the gene in adults. Some genes must be inactive in certain tissues and cannot be studied properly in isolation. And, this knockout technology ensures scientists are able to knockout genes at a specific stage.
This also help scientists to learn about how a gene in one tissue affects the same gene in other tissues in knockout technique. Genetically Modified Mice, Transgenic Mouse Models.
