Placebo Buttons

The Truth: Many public buttons are only there to comfort you. You press the doorbell button, you hear the doorbell ring. You press the elevator button, it lights up. You press the button on the vending machine, a soft drink comes rattling down the chute. Your whole life, you’ve pressed buttons and been rewarded. The thing about buttons, though, is there seems to be some invisible magic taking place between the moment you press them down and when you get the expected result. Maybe there’s a man inside who pulls out the can of soda and puts it in the chute. You just don’t know, and that’s how conditioning works. The problem here is that some buttons in modern life don’t actually do anything at all.

According to a 2008 article in the New Yorker, close buttons don’t close the elevator doors in many elevators built in the United States since the 1990s. Placebo buttons are a lot like superstitions, or ancient rituals. Sources: World Sunlight Map.

20 Unusual Churches (Part I

This must be the most popular and most often asked question of all times. Well, I can’t help you there, sorry. This post is not about religion, it’s about architecture. Not just architecture, but unusual architecture, and to be more exact – unusual churches. I am sure that there are hundreds and thousands of beautiful churches around the world, but only very very few are so odd, that you would definitely take a camera and take a picture. P.S.: if you know or have a picture of an unusual church, send it to us (email on about page). P.S2.: full list can be found here: 50 Most Extraordinary Churches of the World 1. (Image Credits: Stuck in Customs) The Church of Hallgrímur is very very unusual, never seen anything like that. This Lutheran parish church is also a very tall one, reaching 74.5 metres (244 ft) height. It took incredibly long to build it (38 years!)

The Architect of this building is Guðjón Samúelssondesign. More info: Hallgrímskirkja 2. (Image Credits: = xAv =)

Yaohnanen tribesmen show pictures of 2007 visit with Prince Philip The people of the Yaohnanen area believe that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the consort to Queen Elizabeth II, is a divine being; the pale-skinned son of a mountain spirit and brother of John Frum.

Prince Philip Movement

According to ancient tales, the son travelled over the seas to a distant land, married a powerful lady and would in time return. The villagers had observed the respect accorded to Queen Elizabeth II by colonial officials and concluded that her husband, Prince Philip, must be the son from their legends. [citation needed] When the cult formed is unclear, but it is likely that it was sometime in the 1950s or 1960s. The Resident Commissioner suggested that the Prince send them a portrait of himself. In 2010 Australian journalist Amos Roberts visited Tanna and reported on the locals' celebration of Philip's 89th birthday, for SBS's magazine program Dateline.[5] See also[edit] Cargo cult References[edit] External links[edit] Breathingearth - CO2, birth & death rates by country, simulated real-time.

Religious pareidolia. For Immediate Release: Miracle Toast! (ACPA-London) Excitement is growing in the Northern England town of South Kepticksfield following the news that a local man saw an image of the Big Bang in his breakfast toast. Atheist, Dick Dawgins, 68, told local newspaper, The S. Kepticksfield Express that he was sitting down to eat breakfast when an unusual toast pattern caught his eye. "I was just about to spread the butter when I noticed a fairly typical, small hole in the bread surrounded by a dark area. However the direction and splatter patterns of the crumbs, as well as the changing shades emanating outwards from this black hole, were very clearly similar to the chaotic-dynamic, non-linear patterns that one would expect following the Big Bang.

" "It's the beginning of the world; there's no question about it," he added excitedly. Ever since news of the discovery made national headlines, local hoteliers have been overwhelmed by an influx of atheists who have flocked to S.
