American Academy of Pediatrics Cuts Ties with Monsanto Months ago Mamavation learned that the American Academy of Pediatrics was in a sponsorship relationship with Monsanto, a chemical company and makers of DDT, PCBs, Agent Orange, glyphosate & GMOs. In fact, Monsanto has been deemed the 3rd most hated company in the United States by the Harris Poll this year measuring “reputation quotient” which basically means how people feel about them. Baffled by this relationship, Mamavation founder Leah Segedie contacted the AAP through a close friend and colleague and was put in touch with their Public Affairs team. “I was completely shocked that the American Academy of Pediatrics, an organization that moms put their trust in at some of the most vulnerable times in their lives was associating with a company that didn’t elicit trust at all. I knew this association was potentially damaging to the AAP and that Monsanto was getting far more out of it than pediatricians ever would. Monsanto has seemed to have a bad year.

In the last few days we have had '100 books to love' and 'The books we secretly love - our 50 favourite page-turners' from, respectively, The Sunday Times and The Times (both £). And before that there was the '100 novels everyone should read', and - with inflation - the '1000 novels everyone must read', and '100 Books To Read Before You Die'. There were also the 'top 100 books of all time' and the top 100 titles from the BBC's Big Read. As well as plenty more.

Introduction At the Summit of the Americas held in Miami from December 9th through 11th, 1994, the leaders of all the nations in the Western Hemisphere except Cuba agreed to begin negotiating a treaty to create a Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) to be ready for signature by 2005. To speed up the process leading to such a FTAA, it was initially suggested that the current assortment of sub-regional economic integration projects in Latin America and the Caribbean be used as the foundation blocs to be eventually incorporated into the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)1. However, a noticeable lack of United States leadership in the creation of a FTAA following the Summit in Miami in 1994, and rapidly changing events in Latin America since then, killed this so-called "hub and spoke" approach to the economic integration of the Western Hemisphere. "If it bleeds - it leads" is much more than a cliche - it is a journalistic fact of life. The danger with the daily sensationalism is that it skews the viewer's perception of reality.
