Gerrit Rietveld Academie IoA Institute of Architecture Character Animation | School of Film/Video BFA Only The Program in Character Animation is designed for students who seek an understanding of the art of character performance and storytelling in animation. It provides comprehensive artistic and technical training to help each student develop as a fully-fledged animation artist within both the traditional and computer-generated (CG) animation environments. To best instruct, guide and mentor students, the program features a faculty of experienced professionals who work at the forefront of traditional, CG and independent animation. The first year of the program’s intensive four-year curriculum is devoted to courses in life drawing, color and design, storytelling and character animation—both traditional and CG. In addition to its course requirements, the program calls on students to attend lectures, demonstrations and screenings as part of an extensive visiting artist series, featuring noted animators, filmmakers, showrunners, and artists. Introduction — IKA Architectural education in the past decade has experimented with a variety of subjects within and outside of the boundaries of architectural production. In spite of many changes and reforms in programmes in Europe, most architecture curricula and schools have not questioned the nature of teaching nor its relationship to the production of architecture since the Beaux Arts model. As a result there are those schools that teach students to "THINK" and others that train them to "DO" - very rare are those schools that combine these in the course of the architect's education. In the wake of a new century and the environmental disasters architecture and its education need to be challenged and new models invented.

Architektur Traditionell besaß ein Architekturstudium an künstlerischen Hochschulen eine eher künstlerische, an technischen Hochschulen eine eher technische Ausrichtung. Diese Situation entspricht Ansprüchen und Kritik an Architektur heute nicht mehr. Künstlerische und wissenschaftliche Inhalte und Methoden treten am UdK-Studiengang Architektur deshalb integrativ, nicht additiv auf. Die ganzheitliche Sicht der Lehre zeigt sich auch in der Einbeziehung gesellschaftlicher Fragen, die mit Architektur zu tun haben. So • lehrt man Architektur und Städtebau integriert, • fördert man gezielt den Austausch mit anderen Studiengängen und Fakultäten, • gibt es ein berufspraktisches Semester mit Begleitseminar und anschließendem Praxisprojekt, • gehören studiengangübergreifende interdisziplinäre Fächer zum Lehrplan.
