Online KML converter – batch geocoder | MapsData Our free online converters let you batch geocode ZIP codes and UK postcodes, and we also offer a range of individual converters. We developed the technologies behind these converters for our own products and decided to share them for others to use freely. Converter limits The Batch Converter is limited to 50,000 rows, and the KML converter approximately 32Mb. Shift Your Point of View There’s been a lot of “make America better again” lately. Er, wait. America should be good? Let’s say you get what you think is a good deal on a car. Similarly, if you’re sitting in 2009 and unemployment is on the rise, other years start to seem a bit better. The charts below let you shift your perspective for common metrics we often use to measure the progress or state of the country. Unemployment is shifty as it varies with a number of factors. Not everything is fluctuates so much though. Federal minimum wage isn’t quite the same story though. But more people are working on their education. shape - GrADS Extensions for Shapefile support shape - GrADS Extensions for Shapefile support shp_polyf SHAPEFILE [OBJECT] shp_lines SHAPEFILE [OBJECT] shp_print SHAPEFILE This library of GrADS extensions provides commands for the display and output of shapefiles. The Shapefile format is a new working and interchange format promulagated by ESRI ( for simple vector data with attributes. The file format actually consists of three files. XXX.shp - holds the actual vertices. shp_polyf SHAPEFILE [OBJECT] For each polygon object defined in SHAPEFILE, a filled polygon is plotted as overlay on GrADS plots using the current line attributes. shp_lines SHAPEFILE [OBJECT] Each object contained in SHAPEFILE is plotted as a continous line joining vertexes as overlay on GrADS plots using the current line attributes. shp_print SHAPEFILE This function has NOT been implemented yet. Here is a very partial list of free (as in beer) shapefiles, as well for a DVD that you can buy.
Generic Mapping Tools Tool for Google Maps v3 (version 3) This application is also available with Large map. This is a drawing tool for polyline, polygon, polygon with holes, rectangle, circle, marker(icon), direction(route, path). This application uses the Google Maps API Version 3 (V3). It has all the features of Google Maps MyMaps and has direct access to the code for the shapes (overlays) you create. It should be a full-fledged alternative. Code will be presented in the textarea. The OpenStreetMap map type has been added to the Google Maps map types. The feature 'polygon with hole' ('donut') is built-in in V3. The V2 feature enableEditing now exists for V3. And for editing - if you have a kml file uploaded on a server, and you want to edit its coordinates, you may use my edit tool Edit tool for Google maps polyline and polygon You will need a PC or laptop with a large amount of computer memory if your kml file has 1000 coordinate pairs or more. If you need to learn how to use KML, this is where you start KML Other useful links:
Charting All the Beer Styles A common mistake about beer is that there are basically two types: the super-drinkable variety and the super-hoppy and bitter variety. For the first type you have your Bud Light and Corona, and for the second you have any IPA. There’s so much more to try though, spanning a wide range of taste, flavors, and malt. The Beer Judge Certification Program lists 100 styles with defined ranges of alcohol by volume (ABV), bitterness (measured in IBUs, or International Bittering Units), and color (measured using SRM, or Standard Reference Method). Below is a series of charts for all 100 styles. You’ll notice that the lighter beers tend to have a tighter range of ABV and IBUs, whereas the bigger beers tend to vary more.
All the National Food Days Once I paid attention, it started to feel like there were a whole lot of national food and drink days in the United States. National Chili Dog Day. National Donut Day. According to this list, 214 days of the year are a food or drink day. So here are all the days in calendar form. Hold on to your britches next week. Nerd Notes Some calendar days have more than one claiming food or drink item, which makes for a list of 302 items. Interactive Earth: Shapefile to KML using Open Source GIS [Note: The work described below has resulted in an application named Shape2Earth, which is now available for download.] One of the things that I have been working on lately (or .. whenever I get the chance) is a Shapefile to KML writer for viewing GIS data in Google Earth that uses open source GIS components. I gained a lot of experience with KML while prototyping an ESRI ArcMap based toolset that used ArcObjects, and thought that an open source equivalent would be worth pursuing. There were three main reasons that I decided to work on this project. 1) It sounded like a lot of fun, 2) I have been increasingly interested in open source GIS, and 3) the emergence of Google Earth (as well as Google Maps, Yahoo Maps, and Microsoft Live Local) has led to an enormous interest in geospatial visualization outside of the traditional GIS community. To develop my Shapefile to KML tool, I decided to use MapWindow GIS. Once the parameters have been set, I can convert the data to KML.
