burning man SERGIO ROSSI SNEAKERS: A TRIBUTE TO ARTE POVERA April 14th, 2014 Last week Salone del Mobile Sergio Rossi unveiled their new sneaker collection in tribute to Avant-Garde’s Arte Povera. Through the design of their new sneaker collection, Sergio Rossi has reaffirmed their link with the art world, presenting a tribute to one of the avant-garde art movements of the early 1970s: Arte Povera. The Collection and Design Director Angelo Ruggeri cleverly mixes the brand’s signature sleek lines with influences from artists such as Alighiero Boetti, who focused on both the artwork and its constituent elements, drawing attention to time, the work of the artist and the materials used. The result is a celebration of Italian shoemaking excellence, from the upper and nine-thread stitching “narrating” the history of iconic Sergio Rossi shoes, to the unique details, such as the gold zip embedded by hand and the fine skins used, like crocodile.
